No, it doesn't :) It means that if one student is more able than the others to perform skills, they can perform them with the instructor or videographer in order to get a pass commensurate with their skills. This means that regardless of the rest of the "team" one person can still pass...

Heh, no. I wasn't part of the dive that started this thread, this was some time ago :) And indeed, the most interesting dive for sure from a "structure" point of view is the one on the pinnacles, not directly out from the beach.

I kicked it once in decent conditions. A long but doable surface swim (we swam out to the rocks, did the dive then swam back on the bottom but a new-to-me buddy got low on gas and we had to swim most of the way home against the current on the surface which was miserable) I would say much more...

Except that the entire point of the valve-drill is (was?) supposed to allow the diver to "get" the connection between right/left posts and regulators (i.e. the act of breathing down the regs drills into you what regulator is attached to what posts) Seems like you lose that correlation here...

My Sea & Sea (MDX-300) has a port lock on the hosing, BUT if you use an extension ring and a port, then only the extension ring can be locked (the port cannot be locked to the extension ring) I believe thats the case with at least some other Sea & Sea (maybe all but I am not sure)

Graham, if you treat this as an opportunity to learn some new stuff, improve your diving and have fun, then I would say go for it. Both Karim and Steve M are local and so you dont have those issues of flying someone in, or having to fly out of town. It's supposed to be a learning/teaching...

I do have some knowledge of how GUE-F (and other GUE classes go) and while I highly value the training I received, DIR/GUE-F is (was?) supposed to be the basics, introductory course. A ginormous list like the one above for what is really a basic class just seems like it may end up...

Wow, this is starting to sound more like training to be in the marines than prep for what's basically a personal-skills improvement class with some team skills added if everyone's up for it at the end.

Graham, You have 2 local GUE instructors. If you are already diving a Backplate/wing, and feel reasonably comfortable in them, I'd say go for it and just take fundamentals honestly.

Hmmm, I passed (old class and in singles) at 44 dives, my buddy at 36. My girlfriend and her buddy passed the new class at around or maybe less than 1 year (but she did take UTD rec1 as her Open Water class so I maintain had an unfair advantage :)

Indeed. Mines an '05 and still works fine. Easy to patch up with Aquaseal also if you do spring a leak. One thing to check with a dual-layer wing (inner/outer bladder) is whether or not the inner bladder is accessible for repair if you do get a hole in it.

I would also see if a 1" or so shorter hose improves things, looks a little long.

Words in the book are in English or Russian ? Photos are stunning but my Russian isnt so hot.
