Chris, looks like your browser accidentally cut off the part of your post where you congratulate Shawn on passing the class :)

    SPG placement

Yeah, I guess, I prefer to have it where I can manipulate it while scootering, especially frustrating on the right chest given what else can be there as RJack said, and if for instance it keeps getting turned away from you when you move your arm for instance. Plus, there is a benefit to...

    SPG placement

...great until your light comes on during a dive and no one sees it, then when you need it it's not working or diminished.

...and you cannot now check your gas while on the trigger of a scooter very easily unless you temporarily or permanently drive the scooter with the left hand ... that holds the light and so on...

    Average Gas Consumption?

First off, what others have said --- don't sweat it too much, most people will expect a newer diver to have higher consumption for a while. As you get more confident, and comfortable, you will probably move less in the water, become more stable etc and use less gas. One thing that for me...

    SPG placement

This is fairly common thinking, but I (and others) found it not to be true. I did move to a bigger boltsnap for a while (when I went to drygloves) but found it completely un-necessary and actually harder to operate. Generally I dont need to put my finger in the snap for an SPG (unlike a...

    [Video] Twin Peaks (Monterey)

Jammers and I were lucky enough to get some nice conditions on Twin Peaks on Sunday. Probably 40-50 feet of vis from 100 feet and deeper. Kevin gave us some pointers on finding Twin Peaks, and we did (via Betos reef) Not a ginormous amount of fish, but some good lings, a nice big Sheep...

    V weight Cutting

Yes, you can get about 8 pounds in it that way (works with virtually all reasonable doubles). I usually pick the end of the V-weight with the hole closest to the end (sometimes they are not equal) Its a little tight with (my) Faber LP85s as as the bottom bolt is a little short so check your bolts.

EV Manual Controller - does it work?

I am not sure it really matters what "most" EV use is honestly. The questions was, is it possible to remotely trigger another strobe, and the answer is yes, and it works rather well. I have a sea & sea housing with dual YS-250s on the arms with a dual cord, and use 2 offboard IKElite DS50s...

EV Manual Controller - does it work?

yes, it works, and works pretty well. How far away they will work will depend on the vis and the power of your on-camera strobes. In clear caves, i can easily trigger at 15 or so feet. it's actually rather hard to verify the remote strobe triggered as for me, the onboard strobes mean I cant...

Yeah, i treat the PST and worthington 3442 tanks as essentially identical, with at least 2 pounds per tank needed for the Faber LPs
