    My boots ruined my wetsuit

I saw the thread title and read "boots" as something else and immediately thought "This is going to be an interesting thread".

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

Loss of depth of field and focus as we age due to presbyopia (increasing rigidity of the intraocular lens) doesn't have all that much to do with whether you hold a book flat or tilted- it does make "some" difference but where it really matters is when you spend a lot of time doing visual tasks...

    Biggest thing killing dive shops?

In this respect there's no difference- no guarantee an online reg tech is going to do it faster or correctly either. That much being said, my LDS has done improper repairs on my regs but I also had an issue with a rebuilt reg purchased on line have an internal O-ring blow (the one at the top...

    Biggest thing killing dive shops?

Then the manufacturers selling direct to consumers are screwing themselves out of the large amount of new diver business that will be steered their way by the LDS. Seems rather shortsighted, unless they know something we don't.

    Biggest thing killing dive shops?

I've found a couple of regulator technicians online (one in particular) who sell and service regs and do so for a fraction of the cost of the LDS, about $50 per regulator whether it's the first or second stage. I've always got boxes and packing material at my job which makes it a bit easier...

Currents, when are they the least

On such dives I cannot stop thinking of the times I overslept when I should have gone to the early gym class.

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

Well, no, you won't burst into flames if left in direct sunlight, and neither did our ancestors, however we have a lot more knowledge than they did, which gives us the power to improve our lives and protect our health. It's been proven that sunlight causes cataracts and sometimes irreversible...

Currents, when are they the least

Coz currents are unpredictable, can change literally by the minute, and can be rather strong, but they're great if you like that flying feeling and want to cover a lot of ground, until you see something you actually want to spend some time looking at, then it goes from "that free and liberated...

    Biggest thing killing dive shops?

The local dive shops will react in the only way they can- as they certify new students they will steer them towards gear produced by manufacturers who aren't trying to circumvent them, maybe even going so far as to disparage gear sold by such companies, it's literally their only way of possibly...

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

Myopia with astigmatism with the rule in the od, with hyperopia and against the rule astigmatism in the os. Because of the induced "natural monovision" I only need glasses for distance visually demanding tasks such as night driving and Sunday Night Football.

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

@tursiops forget about checking reliable internet sources that support my point. Try this- gently press on your eyeball and notice how the eye is rather firm. It takes a LOT of pressure to distort it even a little bit. Now, try squinting enough that your field of vision is mostly eliminated to a...

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

I resent the inference that I am partaking in illegal drug use. You are also engaging in the "Ad hominem" attack whereby you attack the person and their credentials rather than the opposing side of the argument. I don't know.. if I look over at a nearby table and see some dude pushing on his...

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

No, I'm not but thanks for the feedback. Here's a really simplified explanation that I found on a quick search, it may "clear things up for you", pun obviously intended. What’s Up With That: How Squinting Helps You See Better

Trip Report Our first trip to Curacao - Dec 10 to 24/17

I don't recall ever seeing so many threads and dive trip summaries about reef conditions deteriorating and/or loss of large marine life. At least you saw some good reef, but without the big fish swimming around it's just not the same and there is no indication that things will get any better...

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

If you squint really hard you will be able to see the restaurant menu just about the same as if you squeeze your eyes with your fingers and you won't look nearly as ridiculous to the other patrons.

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

Here's another method that will accomplish the same thing, and you don't need to use your fingers or even watch a video, and it can work for distance, intermediate, and near vision. It's called squinting

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

You may not "see" a difference but for the vast majority of the population, over the counter magnifiers are not nearly as effective as rx reading glasses. Here's the reasons 1- most people do not have exactly the same refraction between their two eyes, so for maximal visual efficiency the...

Blurry vision underwater is due to pupil dilation, which can be controlled to see as if wearing mask

The report may have said 20/30 but not 30/20. Well it could have said 30/20 but that would have been a mistake. The 20 is always on the bottom. :)
