    Drying gloves and boots

I have a milk crate hanging up in a covered, shady spot in my backyard, plenty of warmth during the day but no direct sunlight. I rinse my gear then throw it all in the crate. Then after a few days I empty the crate back into my dive bag. Sometimes I forget and my gear lives in the crate for...

What is safer overall, recreational diving or snowmobiling??

Well all the good ski spots are in the national park, but there must be plenty of private farmland that's above the snowline in winter. No idea where you'd even find a snowmobile in Australia although I understand emergency services around Thredbo have a few. Riding dirt bikes in the snow...

Having the "Exact Same" equipment as your partner

I'd let your wife choose her own gear. You can tell her why she's wrong later.

    What did you just say?

My favourite so far was from a young lady who'd run her air down very low, which ended the group's dive. I watched the DM repeatedly signal to her, asking how much air she had remaining, and she just stared blankly back. Then he swam across, grabbed her spg, checked it then thumbed her up...

Overly Dramatic Title: The Curse of The Most Experienced Diver

Why not just signal to the DM that you and your buddy are splitting off rather than leaving them guessing?

    Physiology of "saw tooth" diving.

It does concern me that on guided shore dives, the DM will often surface with a diver who's had to thumb early, make sure they're ok with the exit then dive down to look after the rest of the group. On any given weekend there's always going to be some muppet who manages to run out of air when...

    the "Eco Kick" ...

Yes, and also if you haven't taken the perfect buoyancy course, you better be lying on your back on the reef.

Do you dive with a knife? How about a big knife?

I'm pretty new to this, and I've just been doing a bit of shore diving on reefs and trying to keep my bouyancy sorted to avoid touching anything. It's pretty hard to get entangled in rocks and coral, but I still got told I might die because I don't carry a blade. Mostly this comes from people...

Beginning diver! Found a passion for diving!

Welcome to Scubaboard, learning to Dive is pretty awesome isn't it? I'm still fairly new to it myself, but it's everything I hoped it would be. Where did you go in Nusa Lebongen?

    Smoking on a dive boat

This all got too hard, let's just make every dive a shore entry, regardless of distance. We'll have plenty of time to discuss individual liberties during that 20 mile surface swim.

Does anyone still believe in "Support Your LDS"?

Funnily enough my girlfriend bought some gear for me for Christmas from an online seller, as I was about to do my open water. She wasn't necessarily looking for someone local, but the service was good and the shipping was fast. As soon as I started looking for more gear I discovered that this...

what gear purchase has made you irrationally exuberant?

My best new acquisition is my 3lb lead paperweight. Not only is it a damn solid lump of lead to hold things down with, but better still it's no longer on my belt where it was doing no good at all. I felt very exuberant in the water with that gone.

trouble recovering bc from pool bottom

Did someone punch them in the gut? I didn't have to do this skill, but I did have to remove my BCD and tank at the bottom of the pool while keeping my reg in, then get myself back into it and properly readjust all the straps. I think drills like that help familiarise yourself with the gear, if...

Can I get a Fin Awareness Diver specialty card?

what gear purchase has made you irrationally exuberant?

Before I even went for my open water, the best piece of gear I ever recieved was my 3mm suit. I used to go swimming or snorkelling in the ocean and basically write myself off for the rest of the day. I thought I just needed to work on my fittness, turned out I was exhausted from the cold...

Serious question: Farting and bouyancy :)

Dropped one while snorkelling the other day that travelled up my back, under my arm and left me with a large air bubble at the wrist seal. Had to peel back the sleeve to let it out and it was a very strange sensation feeling the gas working it's way around the suit. Wetsuit wash really is...

    New Australian Diver

Hi, I live in Sydney and I just did my first dives and completed my PADI open water cert through Banana Coast Divers up in Coffs Harbour. I'm hoping to get back in the water around Sydney soon and hopefully go back to Coffs for my Advanced in about march. If anyone around Sydney is up for...
