    PADI OW and BPW

Fortunately, my Rescue Diver instructor was wearing a BP/W, so he never fed me that B.S.

    PADI OW and BPW

EXACTLY! It would be like bike shops refusing to sell mountain bikes, because they upset the sensibilities of the roadie crowd. That never happened. Now, they're all in on the gravel bike revolution. I think the major difference isn't between local bike shop owners and local dive shop...

Washing undergarments, probably a stupid question.

I use a "tech wash" that is marketed for performance clothes, so it won't leave a residue that may interfere with insulation or wicking properties. If I didn't have that, I'd use just water until I could get some.

Costa Rica: dive sites, shops, and accommodation on Pacific side

I HIGHLY recommend Rocket Frog Divers in Playas del Coco. They're a first class operation and super friendly and flexible to make sure you have a great time and meet your goals. I've dove with them many times and they're consistently impressive. If you go with them, please say "hi" from Oren.

Requesting Validation in My Understanding of a Concept from Mark Powell's "Deco For Divers"

We are all saturated with nitrogen at the surface, at one atm of pressure of 79% nitrogen and virtually unmeasurable % of helium. That's our normal starting point. When we start to dive we increase the saturation of nitrogen because of the increased pressure. We increase the saturation of...

Maui trip report end of Jan / beg of Feb 2021

The Back Wall of Molokini is worth the trip. Excellent topography, very clear water, typical reef critters with the potential for pelagics. Be sure you have your drift, deep diving and buoyancy skills up to snuff. When I spent a week right next to Black Rock, I shore dived there solo almost...

    Wing comparison advice wanted...

I've had great service from my Oxycheq 18# single wing for my warm water setup, with my stainless steel backplate. No complaints. No signs of wear, even.

Fixing deformed fins.... how do you store fins?

I store mine on a shelf in my dive locker. I never "stand them up" to store or otherwise.

Where and how do you keep your cutting tool

Blunt serrated steak knife and Eezycut trilobite, each in their sheath on my BP/W's waist band, right next to the buckle in the center of my waist. Easily reachable by either hand. Trauma shears in my right thigh pocket, front part shoved into a plastic tube attached with a ziptie to a bungee...

First Aid & CPR prerequisite for Rescue Class

Not really true. I was involved with a dive emergency in which I was deputized by the boat captain to prepare and man the O2 unit, so the captain and DM could manage other issues with the rescue. My DAN O2 training came in handy that day.

    Preferred Shore Dive Sites

I rented my tanks and weights for my shore diving trip to West Maui from Extended Horizons. Great service. I've also used them on prior boat diving trips and found them to be a friendly, safe and accommodating dive operator. Small loads and they are very environmently friendly. As I was...

Does the DPV/Scooter specialty make sense?

It was a marvelous gift from my wife! (Though it “counted” for birthday, Christmas and anniversary.)

Does the DPV/Scooter specialty make sense?

My DPV course was well worth the money. DPVs are great fun. But they're also a great way to yourself into a lot of trouble quickly. A good DPV course will teach you how to mitigate that danger and how to recover when the fecal matter collides with the air circulation device. Though I'm a...
