    Compass question

Yes please do. I have never heard of hand mounting a compass. I dive a lot in low vis and anything that makes navigation easier is a good thing.

    Compass question

Besides being easier to use IMO a wrist mount compass won't get as much abuse as a console mount. No matter how careful you are with a console it will get bumped, banged and occasionally dropped. None of that is good for a compass.

    Age of Regulator?

I have a Sherwood Oasis that had the same first stage and the second stage is of similar design and I know it's from the late 1980's. I have upgraded the first stage to a newer Sherwood dry air bleed with the externally adjustable ip. I still use it and it looks and works great after almost 30...

    1.DCS symptoms and 2. MK25/S600 and Nitrox ?

If someone was ascending to 2000' shortly after a dive would it help prevent DCS if the dive was planned as if it was being conducted at an altitude of 2000'?

PADI AOW Training With Coastal Scuba: A Review

I think a good lesson from this is that it doesn't matter what agency you get certified by and doesn't matter which shop or school you get certified by. What matters is the competence of the individual instructor that does the training. I hear so many people saying one agency is better than the...

    TAMPA BAY

I find Hospital Hole interesting because of the hydrogen sulfide layer at about 70'. From above it looks just like a cloud and you can swirl it around with your hand. It's fun to play with but it doesn't taste very good :P Below the cloud layer it is dark and should be considered an overhead...

Just bought my first double hose

I have been checking out some of the upgrades on VDH and I will be replacing all the rubber. I know I will get hooked and eventually I upgrade it with the Cyclone first stage and HPR but for now I just want to get it functioning as originally intended. I had a beautiful vintage USD J valve but...

Just bought my first double hose

Update: I can see where there was a crown sticker on it at one time. Looks like I need to buy a new set of hoses and try to find a reproduction sticker somewhere.

Just bought my first double hose

Woohoo it's here! The chrome is even better than it looks in the pics. There was some tape residue on it and when I took that off it almost looks like new. Beautiful chrome and the label is perfect! I don't want to take it apart until I figure out how to deal with the clamps that hold it...

Need advice for best underwater metal detector please!

Zerovis is right about burning air when digging. In sandy areas it is faster and easier to fan the bottom with your hand than it is to dig. You will be surprised how quickly you can make a large hole by fanning. And it is usually easier to find the target too because it stays in place as the...

Need advice for best underwater metal detector please!

I have a Fisher Impulse. It's a well made detector and has lasted me about 10 years so far with no problems. They don't make that model anymore but the 1280x is basically the same detector with an extra knob for discrimination. I don't know how well that works because I haven't tried one yet. I...

    In the Beginning

It looked like a master knife but my eyes aren't very good. Looking at it on my laptop instead of my phone and I think you are right. A bayonet...that's even cooler.

Just bought my first double hose

Did some research and due to the serial number I believe it is a 62-63 that is missing the made in France label. A couple have been identified with made in France stamped on the horn under the hose. I will find out Saturday for sure when it arrives. I wish more of the paper label was intact :-(

Thanks, that was cool. The spacey guitar music fit perfectly. I cringed when he was beating the knife on the bell. USD probably wanted to show how rugged it was made. I baby my old USD knife. I wear it for the coolness factor more than for practical use. And it lets me take a couple pounds off...

Just bought my first double hose

I took the plunge and bought a DA Aquamaster on ebay for $150 today. The chrome is in decent shape and the label looks nice. It has part of an original paper label on it so I don't think it has been rechromed. The rubber hoses are rotted and I assume everything else made of rubber probably needs...

Is mixing different brands okay to do?

Truer words have never been spoken. Sherwood is probably the worlds leading manufacturer of valves used in every industry imaginable. They also make many of the regulators and components used in regulators that are rebranded under many different names. Take the Sherwood Ultima second stage...
