Innovations for scuba diving gears in the future

Radio waves, especially microwave (like bluetooth) don't spread too far underwater, due to the high attenuation properties of water. In other words, forget about bluetooth and such. Military uses longwave (extremely low frequency) that requires 100km !!! long antennas for comms with submarines...

Which kind of diver are you with respect to gear?

Built my dive light (24W HID) back in 2007 for two reasons, 1 I couldn't afford to spend 1700USD on a light 2. I knew I could build a better one for a lot less money. I used a Li-Ion battery pack and was called everything from stupid to suicidal as Li-Ion and water don't mix well. Now everyone...

Next step for longer bottom times on deep dives?

I never said that he should get a rebreather just because he can afford it. If he wants longer bottom times, less deco obligation than the CCR is the way to go. Eventually he would end up diving one anyways, so why not save the time/cost of OC trimix and get the right tool for the job. Before...

Next step for longer bottom times on deep dives?

If your budget permits, get a rebreather. Of course take the necessary baby steps (dec proc, adv nitrox) first, but forget OC trimix with today's helium prices. VR Roland

Wanted Amphibico 3 pin video bulkhead

Aquatica (who bought up Amphibico) doesn't have any available. I checked SeaCon, SubCon and also with AK industries but none of them has this low profile bulkhead with the same pin patterns/size available. Do any of you know who was/is the original manufacturer of these connectors? Any help is...

Tajemnice Wraków Bałtyku The Secrets of Baltic Wrecks

Dear All, My apologies if this has been posted already, but for some reason the search function doesn't work for me. (probably because of the Opera browser). I have been wondering if this documentary series is/will ever be available for purchase on DVD/Blu-Ray/download for outside of the...

    Box for save a dive

I use a US military ammo can of the below size. It can easily accommodate all the tools and metal hardware (spare D rings, weight stops, rebreather calibration kit etc) and I just use 3 small plastic organizers (that also fit in the ammo can) for more fragile stuff and o-rings. I have been...

    Analyze nitrox after compressor

I would be scared sh.itless pumping nitrox by only monitoring the output of the compressor and hoping that my O2 regulator works as intended. By the time you see the deviation, it might be too late. it's kind of like Russian roulette. You only get lucky so many times.. Just my two cents. Roland

    Analyze nitrox after compressor

I see the OP's point.I don't know about the DiveSoft Solo but my DiveSoft analyzer is actually capable of shutting down the compressor (or closing a solenoid valve in the O2 line, or do both) if the actual mix at the intake differs from the desired one. VR Roland

    Analyze nitrox after compressor

"As long as I can guarantee I am not mixing more than 40% of course since that is max for my compressor" Exactly. If you analyze downstream of the compressor, how to do you know what is going into the intake of it? Should your regulator on the O2 supply bottle fail, you will only know that you...

Magnetic octopus/hose holder - destroyed in 4 days

Go for a bolt snap and forget about the magnetic holder. Anything that can be magnetized tend to rust. Magnets and salt water don't mix very well. Just my two cents. Roland

Got ripped off buying used BCD. Any way I can repair it myself.

As suggested before by other forum members, inflate and let it sit for awhile. See if it deflates slowly at all. Also fill your bathtub and see where the leaks are if there are any. Roland

Got ripped off buying used BCD. Any way I can repair it myself.

It depends on the iron mainly. I would start with the lowest setting and see if it welds it back together. if not raise the temp and repeat. Thermo-polyurethane has a melting point of around 145 Celsius, so the iron doesn't need to be too hot. Roland

Got ripped off buying used BCD. Any way I can repair it myself.

Since these BC's don't have an inner bladder, they are normallly made out of TPU coated Cordura that has the seams welded by either RF or ultrasound. In other words, your better half's iron would do the trick. Either you gonna need an iron with teflon (PTFE) coated bottom or just use a piece of...

Regulator service - Do you get what you pay for?

Back in '96 when I started diving I had a Sherwood reg set that I took to the only sherwood service center we had here in Hungary back then. They also happened to be the importer of that brand. I dropped it off in October and in March I picked it up from the exact same shelf I put it on 6 months...

What regulator to buy for cave diving + regular diving

Hi, I vote for a Scubapro MK20/G250 regs. They fit nicely on the doubles and also on the stages as the MK20 is a swivel turret first stage. I have 9 sets and I bought all of them on ebay and cleaned/serviced them. Cheap and reliable. Just my two cents... Roland
