    Vancouver Island Divers

Sweet...now that all my gear is serviced/assembled the vis goes to hell. I noticed the armada of fishing vessels camped around Mistaken island. I have a feeling that the spawn won't be much of an issue next year...

    Fusion Review Part I

I'm probably pretty close to Skyjunky in measurements, but have the large Fusion with MK3 undergarments. The legs are a bit snug, but definitely no problem with the crotch being tight. The excess length of the body (which causes the crotch area to sag) is easily managed by the crotch strap of...

    Vancouver Island Divers

Wed Feb 27th -- Tyee Vis estimated to be perhaps 50', and most of the residents were hiding. Nice dive.

    dental question

Extractions generally will not leave any hard tissue (ie bone) 'pockets'. Assuming no complications (sinus communication for example), the only issue is healing. Development of 'dry socket' would be my primary concern--certainly not something you want to experience while you're on vacation...

    Tooth Squeezes

Unless the void in the restoration was huge, it would not likely be visible on a X-ray. With 'old school' amalgam, the forceful act of condensing it into the cavity pretty much ensured no air spaces. That said, some liners placed under deep fillings are water soluble, so over time a space can...

Suggestion Vancouver Island club forum proposal

Sounds like a good idea...I'm in as well (even if I don't live in Victoria).

    Parksville/Nanaimo dive buddies...

Having moved to the island earlier this year, I haven't managed to get out diving as often as I'd like. I'm moving to Nanoose next weekend, and I'll have absolutely no excuse not to get wet (our house is located on Madrona Drive so I'll likely be able to go shore diving right off our deck or at...

how do I fit prescription lenses into cressi big eyes

I was able to 'pry' the retaining frame off using a very fine slot screwdriver (head was coated with tool-dip). I can't remember the order required to release the tabs, but it should be intuitive. Using a knife or a regular screwdriver you may end up scratching or breaking the frame, so some...

I am no "nature nazi" but was there a point to this hunt ...

Previous reports indicate that this 'hybrid' could reproduce (actually the article quoted mentions that as well)...at least in captivity. The hunt was legal and probably contributed significantly to the local economy...and at the end of the day the hunter will be able to keep the pelt. Sean

I am no "nature nazi" but was there a point to this hunt ...

The hunter apparently spent around $50000 for that expedition, and could have been charged for killing a grizzly out of season. He's back again, however...now that grizzlies are fair game. Sean

    halcyon online?

That's not entirely true...5thd-x is presently having a 'fire-sale' of all their remaining Halcyon gear. Works out to be a great deal if they still have in stock what you're looking for. Sean

    No tanks from PST?

Well Faber also has 3442 psi tanks available, but for those who prefer hot dipped galvanized, I guess Worthington is now the only game in town. Sean

Bring a drysuit (if you can find one down there) and make it a diving trip, too.

    Vaccinations for Bonaire

True, but there is enough standing water to support a billion mosquitos. Having suffered countless bites while I was vacationing in Bonaire I was still thankful that malaria and other mosquito borne diseases haven't taken a foothold there. Sean

Fatality in Rockport, Ontario - 4/Feb/2006

Sadly, I have yet to see any concern on this board regarding the loss of the diver's life, or the worst nightmare scenario of surfacing a deceased diver. There's been the issue of the date format, depths/conditions suitable for a 80-90 foot dive, yet none of the standard issue 'my condolences'...

    Tooth problems and diving

Generally any infection that involves the root originally started as a cavity, leaky filling, previous root canal treatment that was not successful, or a cracked tooth. These conditions will require further treatment after antibiotics (if the tooth can be restored). There are other infections...

    You are all right!

Sweet...Colpoy's bay still has some open water. My Dad lives in Wiarton so it looks like I'll be paying him a visit. When I was a kid, the bay would be frozen out to the islands by Christmas. Sean

Kona Coast dives and Manta Night Dive.

We were with Big Island Divers (the only shop brave enough to venture out that night). The only guy with a camera in our group managed to tumble across the bottom and crush my fingers between his tank and a rock--wasn't you, right? Nice photos, BTW. Sean

Kona Coast dives and Manta Night Dive.

My wife and I were in Hawaii (Kauai and the Big Island) and managed to get one manta ray dive in. I compared your photo with some video taken during our dive (Dec 21st) and he's the same manta...Timbuktu. The surge was brutal (holding onto rocks didn't provide any help) but we had a great...
