If you are a nose breather, it will break the seal of the mask. Make sure you are only breathing thru your mouth. We had this a fair bit when I was helping teach.
Try putting silicone grease on your beard and mustache, I had to do that when I had facial hair. Don't use Vaseline as it's petroleum...
Look at the Sub Gravity Paragon Single Tank Package. You can get it with a 3mm short SS backplate. they have a choice of 4 wing sizes, 2 harness styles and 3 weight pocket sizes. It comes with a backplate cover made out of the same material as their wings. Paragon Single Tank Package -...
Try desending in freezing cold green pea soup without seeing the bottom until you are only about 5 feet away along withUnpredictable weather and 5 to 6 foot waves appear that within minutes. The Great lakes are one of the toughest enviorments to dive
Try diving in the St. Lawrence Seaway, 8 to 9 knot currents, low visibility, freighter traffic over head, or the St. Clair river, 7 to 8 knots current,3 or 4 back eddies across the width of the river, low visibility, freighter traffic overhead.
I'm not familiar with either of those fins. Look at the Mares Plana Avanti X3, the Avanti Superchannel OH or the Excite fins. They are cheaper than the Quattro's. Mares is an Italian based company, so there should be a bunch of dealers over there. Check the dealer locator on the Mares website.
I use the 37 lb wing with my 108 low pressure steel tanks. Sub Gravity is very good at answering email questions, shoot them an email and see what they think.
Take a look at the Sub Gravity Paragon wings. They have 26, 30, 37 and 44 lb single tank wings. Their wings do not require a STA. Backmount Gear Archives - SubGravity
I recommend you get a pair of Mares Avanti Quattro fins. They are the best all around fin you can buy. They have been around for a long time, they are a straight forward fin with out any gimmicks or gadgets on them. I have had mine for about 20 years now and still going strong...
Look at the Kraken NR-1800Z light. It has a removable rechargeable battery.
I have 2 of their NR-2000 lights and really like them.

I addition to bmag78's post. Divers that regularly dive with Sandals/Beaches pay to become "elite" divers. They pay about $200 and have to take around 5 courses for this. If the boat is over full ,the "elite" divers bump the other divers off the boat.
Me and my non diving wife stayed at Sunscape Curacao last Oct. yes the resort is a little older but most of the rooms have been renovated, our A/C wasn't the greatest but it worked, most of the staff were good, only the Blue water grill had bad service, our room was cleaned everyday, the ladies...
Their boat was always packed when it went out. It doesn't matter that they don't mention it. They are affiliated with them and charge divers $300 to dive in the Dolphin prison. I will never give one cent to any company that has anything to do with that cruel disgusting industry.

I highly recommend Cenote Xperience (yes they do ocean dives) I have been diving with Nico since 2011. He has a small family run dive shop in Playa.

i would also take a look at the Ratio iX3m 2 Pro, Ratio has the biggest screen on the market. It's a 3 gas computer (Nitrox, Air and Gauge) and has a rechargeable battery. If any tech diving is in the future, you just have to buy the upgraded software instead of a whole new computer.
Ratio iX3M...
I would also take a look at the Dive Rite Hydro Lite. It's more streamlined and I'm not a fan of BCD's with only one tank strap.
