Sub Gravity makes weight pockets that attach to your back-plate. https://sub-gravity.com/product/backplate-trim-weight-pockets-pair/ as well as trim weight pockets that go on your cam straps. https://sub-gravity.com/product/trim-weight-pocket/

Water leaks into mask because of nasolabial lines (next to nose)

Do not use Petroleum jelly with your mask, it is petroleum based and will disintegrate the silicone skirt on your mask. Use silicone grease.

    Best First Pair of Boots?

There's a size chart on their website, it's metric though. I got a size large and it fits a 8.5 to 9.5 US size. There are reviews on Amazon that refer to size also.

    Belize and/or Cozumel+Tulum

Yes, most definitely! I just returned from Cozumel 2 weeks ago, the last visit was 14 years ago and probably won't go back. The diving was good but not wow. The dive sites are over run with divers and dive boats. I counted at least 20 dive boats at some dive sites. I'm in the minority, but it...

Fins have used a pair of split fins and need something better

Mares Avanti Quattros. They are arguably the best all around fin, they have been around for a very long time and are a straight forward no nonsense/no gimmick good fin.

Two lake huron dives for inspiration!!!! And maybe a wreck diving book? Or great beginner scuba book?

HOG makes decent gear. I would not get the 32lb bungee wing though, the bungee's are on the outside of the wing and are an entanglement hazard. HOG 32lb 360 Bungee Wing Black and Red. There's nothing saying you can't mix & match the components. You won't find a better bang for your buck than...

Two lake huron dives for inspiration!!!! And maybe a wreck diving book? Or great beginner scuba book?

Yes, too much wing is not a good thing. You won't put a lot of air in a bigger wing, so it will be floppy and will fold around your tank and trap air. You need a smaller narrow wing so it won't do that. Search through some of the posts in the Buoyancy Compensators (BC's) & Weight Systems section...

Don't get hung up on the deep side/shallow side at Gilboa. You are not allowed to dive the deep side without a deep diver cert or higher, you must have 2 independent cold water regs and tanks, you shall have a drysuit and a drysuit cert. The shallow side is only goes to 60 ft and has all the fun...

Two lake huron dives for inspiration!!!! And maybe a wreck diving book? Or great beginner scuba book?

All our students wore rental 7mm wetsuits. The water temps above 60ft is very doable in a wetsuit. The water is warmer in the late summer and the fall. The "shallow side" is where all the fun stuff is at. The Gilboa website posts the current water temps. If you haven't got a wetsuit already, I...

Two lake huron dives for inspiration!!!! And maybe a wreck diving book? Or great beginner scuba book?

I would say go for and dive at Gilboa. When I was Divemaster ing, we would travel down and do our open water checkouts at Gilboa quarry. Yes it's cold but it's a controlled environment, it's not like out in a lake or ocean and there is a lot of fun stuff sunk there to see. The biggest issue with...
