    Galapagos Liveaboard - Seasick?

If you go with the scopolamine patch, you usually become tolerant of the side effects, dry mouth etc, within a day or so. Also, you need to apply it about a day prior to departing land. Good luck.

Driving Over a Mountain After Diving

Sorry, but yes, it could in fact be a problem. While diving to around 30ft or so is still considered relatively shallow, the fact is that you do take up nitrogen, and at that height there is an approximately 10% reduction in barometric pressure. I think your idea of reducing the risk by doing...

Wrist Computers - I Need Your Advice

I originally had the D9 and it was a disaster. It was constantly fouled by adjacent Suunto computers, and you definitely have to have good eyes to read the thing. Right now, I would have to say that the Galileo Sol is the most physiologic dive computer out there as it incorporates your heart...

    Chloroquine

Hi DandyDon, The drugs used for malaria are either suppressive, ie you can still be infected but they prevent the parasite from entering a particular stage of it's life cycle, or they kill the parasite. The reference to the CDC site which I provided above gives a great summary of theses agents...

    Chloroquine

While a great deal of non medical measures may be taken to reduce your risk, such as applying DEET, (>28% concentration), mosquito netting at night etc, it would be UNWISE to risk getting malaria in a known at risk area. This is particularly so as drug resistance is on the rise. I can assure...

    Side effects of hyperbaric treatment?

Hi wickedsweet23, Thanks for your inquiry. With HBO treatment the onset of new or different symptoms in someone who has late onset or late presentation may merely represent part of the evolution of the illness, and is not a side effect of therapy. At this point we are not seeing bubble effects...

diving with newly diagnosed brain anurysm

Part of the risk in relation to aneurysms are size; Clearly the larger, the greater at risk you are. As highlighted above, sudden elevations in BP, which are often exertional and effort related may place a patient at risk.So another important question, as has already been suggested, is the...

    Mental Illness and Scuba

Hi Scuba Doo, Thanks for your courage in outlining what is clearly a challenging dilemma and one which no doubt impacts upon your entire life and not merely diving. I would suspect that in the absence of excessive sedation produced by the drugs that are often used in this situation, diving...

    Cocos trip review

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Cocos Islands aboard the Undersea Hunter in early June. As most of us here at the forum, I was very excited to travel to a new and very talked about destination which promised a great deal of big fish action. This anticipation was only fueled by...

    Skin bends/cutaneous DCS (imgs).

Thank you. Timely, as I had a diver demonstrate the identical rash in association with shoulder pain while diving in Cocos. The rash began to resolve after 20 minutes of oxygen. He originally wondered if the rash was due to wet suit irritation, but in association with the shoulder pain it was...

    Dry Mouth

You might want to try "OASIS" mouth spray specifically for medical syndromes of dry mouth, ( not a problem here). It's quite helpful using pre dive.
