My post was just to explain the type of DPV training I had. All DPV's used during the course had an on/off switch, so I was not aware that there are models without one. Learned something new.
When I took the GUE DPV 1 training we where taught some things you can to regain control in case of a runaway DPV. We also practiced this a couple of times. Starting slow, increasing to full speed on second or third attempt. It was fun, but also a pretty frightening experience. Even in a...
Due to circumstances I once did a dive where I had to use a helium mix for my drysuit.
The difference in buoyancy was negligible. At least I can't remembe it being noticeably different from a 'normal' dive. The cold wasn't too bad, but in all fairness it wasn't a very long dive.
Caves:
- Ressel: you can indeed do 2 dives. One to left after the first T and another one to the right (deeper shaft).
- Landenouse: make sure you arrive early as parking space is limited to about 4 cars.
I have also done St.George and Cabouy during C1 training and they where fine.
No...
I do make a plan before the dive, but don't use details such as direction in degrees (general direction yes). What I do write down is the lines I intend to follow, jumps we want to make (where and how many), (estimated) average depth and gas consumption etc. All of this is written down in my...
Back in the days when I had a 7mm suit (+ second layer (shorty) around the torso) I needed +/- 20 pounds of lead. Might have been able to pull it off with 18 eventually when the suit started to wear out. 14 pounds sounds like it's too little.
Never had to kick to go down (to be honest, I think...
Agreed. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you are a used to it, it really isn't that much of an issue anymore. I use my She-p on most of my dives. Just love the fact that I can pee when I want and as often as I want. Diapers don't sound like a great alternative to me.
Most men I dive...
I prefer to set up my gear myself.
However in Asia we visited a quite a few places/resorts where the staff does it for you. We found out it is better to just let them do it and then double check yourself. They always seem a bit insulted if you set up your own gear, it is part of their job.
If your goal in the end is doing more technical diving then my suggestion would be to start diving with the setup you eventually intend to use. That would mean buying a D12. Handling the weight shouldn’t be too much a problem, even I can manage fine most of the time and I am just a 1.60m tall...
I Answered yes. However I must say that I don't lend gear to just everyone, only a select group of fellow (tech) divers. It's usually about a set of doubles, stages, regs., stuff like that. Should I need an extra stage I, can always lend one too without questions asked.
From what I have heard (from a shop owner) the Ammonite is indeed the better choice. Already had Santi as the Ammonite valves weren't available yet when I got my suit but should I need a new one I would switch to Ammonite. After multiple issues with the Santi valve we could get the cable...
I did Cave 1 before Tech 1 as I am personally more a cave diving person. The most important reason I took Tech 1 anyway is so that now (after passing Cave 2) I have the option to do tech dives in caves.
If you think you will enjoy the wrecks more then I would say start with Tech 1. If it's a...
I have done the GUE DPV class and I was very happy that I did. Already had some experience with a DPV beforehand but still learned a lot.
Topics covered:
- Skills such as S-drills, valve drills with a DPV positioned between your legs
- Basis skills such as maneuvering the DPV, team positioning...
Can you please explain?
In case of a failure there is plenty of time to identify which post has failed, signal your teammates and in the meanwhile close the post. It takes quite some time for a set of doubles to lose all of its air, no need to stress out.
Better to maintain buoyancy and (in a...
Succes!
