I have complained about being too warm diving, was in the Philippines , Barracuda Lake Coron was so hot, I was in Oahu January dived in a 3mm wetsuit was plenty warm, personal preference though as some feel the cold more than others
I'm no expert but I agree sounds like anxiety issue, maybe take up yoga and learn to relax and breathe don't worry that you are 10yrs older from when you started the skills you learnt are the same,
I just dived in Waikiki in January, yes I know what people do in wetsuits and I used theirs hahaha, was a 3mm steamer and that was more than enough even overs , If you don't feel the cold spring suit or boardies will do..
