    So Close!!!

Last weekend I finally got a vaccine appointment for tomorrow with the second dose scheduled for 4 weeks! Add 2 more weeks for the immune system to ramp up... Add 1 more week just to be safe... Schedule a trip for mid-May! Hotels! Flights! Dives! Happy dancing in the kitchen with my wife...

Opinions on new divers with technical setups?

FWIW... I used a BP/W using the OW config (40 inch primary hose, under arm, backup on necklace) for every dive after my OW classes. I did advanced and rescue in the same config. When my daughter learned, she was in a BP/W. The instructor had zero issues with this. My PADI DM buddy even...

    AI versus hotel

I have stayed in town and stayed at AIs. Granted, when I stay in AI we absolutely hit the restaurants in town a few times. My wife and my whole dive group vastly prefer staying at an AI and visiting down as needed. My point: Dont think of town vs AI as a rigid choice when both is a great...

Private or Dedicated Guides / Spotters...

Just as a me too, I have dove with Julio at 3P and the stuff he finds is amazing. I recall on my last trip he was finding tiny tiny pipefish floating around in the detritus on the bottom. If you are going to dive with him make sure your reading vision is good and maybe bring a magnifying glass!!!

Ultramar Ferry suspended for exceeding capacity

The second shot, the booster, kicks your immune system into high gear. Hence the stronger reaction to the second shot.

    Covid testing in Cozumel

Hi, As a person that does analytical testing for a living (though NOT covid tests), do give some consideration to false positives. Both of the tests discussed have a false positive rate and one is worse than the other. Do give some consideration what your contingency plan will be if you get...

AI hotel and onsite dive op recommendation?

A 2 tank dive is a dive, followed by 1 hour surface interval, then another dive. The OP will put 2 tanks on the boat for each diver. Almost all diving at Cozumel is a 2 tank dive.

AI hotel and onsite dive op recommendation?

I'll echo all of the above. I love the Iberostar and Dressel is good enough. I've dove with the ops in town and stayed in town. Yes I can dive a 70 min dive with the other ops but I'm not going to cry over the difference. Often if you are in the more experienced groups the DM calls the...

    Health of the reefs?

Wow, so what you are saying is that if the reefs got a 6 month break from cruise ships it would help their health? Just think how exotic ($$$) a place like Cozumel would be if you could only go there 6 months a year. Quality, not quantity.

Current Taxi rates to town from the southern hotel zone

I always plan how many trips I might take and then bring pesos. Don't pay in USD unless you have to or you will get a very unfavorable rate.

    Hurricane Zeta

There have been so many storms this year they exhausted the English alphabet and moved in the "back up" Greek alphabet.

    Casa Mexicana Question

People have implemented reason as you suggest. That is why the buffets are shut down.

    Casa Mexicana Question

What you describe is not sufficient. If a person cleans their hands, then touches their eyes, nose or mouth, their hands are contaminated. Most people touch their face with out even knowing it constantly. These days I wear glasses restrainers just so my glasses don't slide down while I am...

    Cozumel COVID-19 updates

Lots of businesses are adapting to this major disruption. This is just another business cycle that will drive winners and losers. Adapt or die. The companies, and likely others, who pretend this is not happening will not survive. Literally...

    Cozumel COVID-19 updates

Sanitation is largely irrelevant because at the time SARS was very rare and it is unlikely the plane was contaminated prior to that flight. Masks are not currently required on planes. The above report is the result of contract tracing which is only really effective when there are limited...

    Cozumel COVID-19 updates

https://www.nejm.org/doi/pdf/10.1056/NEJMoa031349 See above for the transmission of SARS (also coronavirus) on a plane. Look how many rows away some people were infected. Based on this study, I am highly skeptical of the above statements of air purity on planes.

    Cozumel COVID-19 updates

This is so wise. We are in a grasshopper & ant phase. The people most likely the get the virus by not taking precautions are the grasshoppers. My suspicion is the planes, headed towards vacation sites, are filled with grasshoppers. The ants will not change the mind of the grasshoppers...

bag drag or CUN-CZM via air

Sorry, it didn't occur to me that you were asking a bunch of scuba divers on the internet if it was safe to travel on potentially packed plane, then a bus and then a ferry to go on vacation or if 2 planes was safer. Because why would you get safety information on covid from scuba divers? Now...
