That's good to hear about the Oceanic Shadow. I tried that one on and it didn't fit my face, just too wide, but they make a smaller one that fits me fine, I haven't been using that one.... yet, but it's on the list of things to get.
Kevin,
I'm not a big fan of used gear. I've had some leaking BC's while on dive trips in Hawaii, and it's no fun having to end your dive earlier than everyone else because you kept having to add air to a faulty BC. And when you pay a couple hundred to do these dives, having bad gear just...
I agree with CompuDude. The 11 year old suit will fail in comparison to the new 3/2 suit. Anyway a 3/2 suit is for warmer water, if you are truely concerned about the cold, buy the 3/2 suit and layer it with a 3mm vest for your core. You'll be plenty warm, and it won't break your bank.
I had a similar experiance renting a BC in Hawaii. I had a leaking purge valve and this made the dive terrible! I kept sinking to the bottom, having to refill with air, sink, refill.... repeat and got frustrated.... ended the dive early. Any equipment that doesn't fit or work properly will kill...
Wow... you're right never seen one.... however some movies I've seen have their products in them and I know they pay for that advertising, but it's so hard to find or notice. For example If you seen Notting Hill (chick flick) there is a hilarous part where Hugh Grants roomate puts on his mask...
Wow, welcome aboard, you sure have logged a few dive. Been certified a while now but not quite near your where you are at.... little jealous really. Have fun :)
Completely agree. You really get what you pay for with wetsuits. With that said, you can get some great ones for pretty reasonable prices.
What thickness do you need? Check ours out at http://www.onestopscuba.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=46
Depends on your tolerance for cold. If you can handle a 55F Degree day in a 5mm with a 5mm hooded vest you are stronger than me (by a long shot). I don't think the price is too different going from a 5mm to a 7mm anyway. If it were me I'd get the 7mm Akona suit, check out this article on them...
I've also kept my eyes closed during this full mask removal routine. I guess I figure stuff is so blurry without the mask, what the use in opening them anyway? So with the eyes closed that may help with the shock. Worth a try right?
Pete, is right, you may want to consider a 3/2 full for protection. I got hit in Fiji by a Porteguese Man-o-War and had a reaction to the sting. The little bugger nearly killed me! So I've learned it's better to cover up.
Chris great comments. Its interesting... when we first looked into branching out into the Web site busniess I called Larry and got wonderful advise. You would have thought a guy who your about to compete with wouldn't be so open. But I found him to be gracious and giving. You can see why...
Welcome the board.... I also completely agree with Mudhole. But I would also like to add that it is nice to buy a BC and reg that you won't need to replace because it doesn't have all the features you want later. For example, getting a BC that has plenty of places for weights, like those that...
Welcome to the board my friend! There are a load of discussions regarding equalization. I would suggest putting in a keyword search for that in the forums and you will find some great advice of your fellow memebers. Just a quick tip from a not so newbie, early and often is always the key. I...
No, your not the only one who likes the smell of neporene, although, the smell is only good, if not left in your car for the day.... the smell becomes much less favorable after that.
Do not buy a wetsuit without reading this first http://www.scubadiving.com/gear/exposure_protection/the_chill_is_gone/1/. This is most non-biased review of suits I've ever seen. The 7mm Akona is the clear winner and you can find it for much less than they say in the review. This is the one I'll...
