Questions for Coz residents : Internet costs, speed, reliability…?

Hey there, Well, after spending another awesome 2 months on the island this Spring (trip report coming "ahorita" aka "sometimes at an unforeseen date in the future" ;)), I am now seriously considering making THE MOVE. Unfortunately, I can't retire yet (and won't even be able to do so...

    Can ya believe it?

Oh my, Kevin ! You really ought to consider changing your travelling dates. Never met the infamous Dandy Don, but caution is strongly advised. • According to photos he's posted, he sure has a thing for thongs and itsy tiny bikinis. Only he's not the one wearing them. DON'T bring the wife...

    Diving in Isla Mujeres

I think you mean Holbox, not Contoy. Isla Contoy is a small island/national park/bird sanctuary North of Isla Mujeres. Isla Holbox, reachable thru the port town of Chiquila, is the one known for whale-shark snorkeling tours. Read your Isla Mujeres trip report, it mirrors the very limited dive...

    April roll call...

I'm on the island now and will be there all of April, save for a possible trip to the mainland.

    March in Cozumel, Carnival

Tried the tripes once, crunchy on the outside and tasty but I'm sticking to tacos l pastor and quesadillas from now on... they're my addiction. Doubt I'll be on the boat next week, I need to get in shape a bit and do a few shore dives first to get used to my new equipment. Recently bought a BP/W...

    March in Cozumel, Carnival

I'm blue ! Finally ! Arrived yesterday afternoon, checked in the Hotel Pepita downtown, bought a cell phone from Telcel, had dinner at my friends' place, lunch today at Sabores (yummy !), dinner at Los Otates. Tomorrow looking for an appartment to rent for 2 months. No diving till I'm settled...

Laundramat in Cozumel & Cell Phone Information

I don't know if the owners of the lavanderia I mentionned speak English, but that shouldn't be an issue. Just bring your laundry, they'll weigh it in front of you, tell you how much it costs, give you a receipt with price paid and pick up time, and you're done. To find it, from the ferry pier...

If they only made it. I would buy it....

+1 Actually found an OK fit with a Pinnacle. Mine is a bit loose in the waist area, but at least I can squeeze in my chest and hips, and the legs aren't 5 inches too long. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the already available equipment… just wish it were 70% cheaper… ;)

Personal experiences of DCS - poll

Had a DCSII hit in Cozumel last year. One table 6 chamber ride, followed the next day by a table 5. The profiles that day were more than conservative, so there was a very high suspicion that I had a PFO ("hole in my heart"). Since then, my heart has been thoroughly checked, and it turns out...

Dive op suggestion for off beaten path

While all (West) sites can be accessed by all dive ops, some are less visited than others. Especially the ones way South, such as Maracaibo, and way North, such as Barracuda, which have less daily traffic than, say, Palancar. The reason being that those are more advanced dives and that they are...

Dive op suggestion for off beaten path

Since there are 4 of you, I'm sure several ops will be able to put you on a boat just yourselves, DM and boat captain, and take you where you want (depending on your actual diving abilities as well as current conditions, of course). I know Aldora would meet your needs, but there are others as...

    best place in Cozumel

Scubby-doo, I think you would get more useful answers if you were more specific about your preferences, as suggested by Dandy-Don : • On a sandy beach or in town ? • All-inclusive or not ? • What's your budget ? The hotels I've stayed at were wonderful for the price (Vista del Mar, USD 50 off...

    Do Europeans tip DMs?

I believe you're right, it's all about cultural differences and expectations. In France, for example, a waiter is basically expected to seat you, take your order, serve your food, and bring your check (you need to explicitely ask for it, or you will wait a looooong time). Likewise, a taxi...
