Is now a dangerous time to travel to Cozumel?

Note to self : acquire a meth addiction before next summer in order to fit in that XS wetsuit.

Cozumel with kids and Grandma - need housing suggestions

Regarding the snorkeling at Villa Aldora, it is very good (also good for free shore diving for Aldora's customers there too), but there is some current and it isn't shallow enough for kids to stand up. Which is why I wrote it wasn't "kids friendly". Unless of course they and grand-ma are good...

Cozumel with kids and Grandma - need housing suggestions

Sweeeeeeet place, cvchief. Is that yours ? Didn't imagine there were so many units, only saw the place from the street when I visited a friend living at Blanquita's (not quite the same standing) across the street. PS: if you need a house sitter, let me know, I'm considering moving to Coz next...

    Scuabamau diving accident

I don't see how what happened would impact the local dive industry as far as customer diving trips are involved. This accident happened during a dive between friends, no client involved. The fact that the now deceased owner of the shop, her boyfriend and her divemaster did incredibly deep dives...

Spring travel suggestions for new diver

Cozumel has plenty of diving opportunities. Make sure you let the dive op know you are a novice and hire a private DM for the first few dives (costs about USD50 extra for a 2 tank trip). The island is very family friendly (safe to walk everywhere), but you will need a means of transportation to...

Cozumel with kids and Grandma - need housing suggestions

Villa Aldora fits most (not all) of your requirements. They have two bedroom suites and appartments with kitchen, no cruise ship tourists, great snorkeling, and the Aldora boat picks you and drops you off right there. However, no restaurant on site and there is no beach per se. Small man made...

Halcyon Infinity for a new diver?

I personally don't see any flaw in your thinking. Then again, I'm not expert by any means, and haven't dove with a big wing (mine is a 24lb, I don't do cold water), so couldn't tell you how noticeable the change in drag/trim is.

    Scuabamau diving accident

This is none of my business but I'm curious and not sure I correctly understand Kevin's and Christi's posts. What I'm getting is : • Mau is opening a new shop called "Scuba Mau". • Opal's brother Joseph and the employees of the former Scuba Mau shop will rename their shop something else. Is that...

Halcyon Infinity for a new diver?

Maynerd, I am no expert by any means but this is what I understand regarding lift capacity (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). • If, for example, your actual maximum need for all the diving situations you intend to do is 20lbs of lift, there is absolutely no added benefit in buying a 40...

Halcyon Infinity for a new diver?

Back on the original topic (sorry for the repeat, didn't want this to be buried as I think it's an important question considering the OP's mention that he might one day dive doubles). This is also what I read on the dive shop website : the Infinity system is sold with the ECLIPSE 30 or 40 lbs...

    Problem with post editing

I've been having two recurring issues for the first time the past 24 hours. 1. Can't edit my posts. When I click on "Edit", my original post doesn't show in the edit window. What I get instead in that window is an image of the whole Scubaboard page. Haven't been able to work around this issue...

    What to do during pregnancy?

Never been pregnant myself, but my best friend loved going to the pool while expecting her child. Said it felt good to feel "weightless" again. Ask your doctor, but I don't see why you couldn't swim, as long as you don't do so in bacteria infected waste dumps. Snorkeled with a very pregnant...

Halcyon Infinity for a new diver?

This is also what I read on the dive shop website : the Infinity system is sold with the ECLIPSE 30 or 40 lbs wing, marked as "single tank wing". Is that correct ? Does that mean the OP wouldn't be able to dive doubles at all with an ECLIPSE wing ? Would he need to buy an adapter (if such a...
