    Do Europeans tip DMs?

As a sometimes waitress in a Parisian restaurant that caters both to locals and tourists, I agree 100% with what Crowley wrote. Especially the bolded paragraph. I already have a full-time job and only work shifts for the fun of meeting new people and the exercise, so I don't really care about...

    Diving anxiety/panic attacks...help!!

It's an ongoing process for me and has lasted for over 4 years, but everyone is different. I have always been an anxious person, so maybe that's the reason why it's taking so long. The fact that I only get the chance to dive while on (long but infrequent) trips doesn't help either, since I...

    Diving anxiety/panic attacks...help!!

Thank you for bringing this up. It is a topic of interest to me as I have in the past suffered from anxiety attacks. Like you, I had no issue and felt very relaxed when I first started diving. Yet once, I overexerted myself during a dive and CO2 retention brought me on the verge of a panic...

    March in Cozumel, Carnival

Bad news : looks like I won't be turning blue by the end of the week as expected. Tied here in (cold and rainy, yuck !) Paris to deal with important paperwork, don't know how long it will take :depressed::( The good news is, the dive doctor suspected I had a PFO (patent foramen ovale) after my...

PFO testing in the area ?

Great news. I was able to get an appointment for the PFO test here in Paris on Feb. 10th. I'm now booking my plane ticket (should arrive on Coz on Feb 26th). If worst comes to worst, I'll only do one dive a day using Nitrox with air settings.

    diving without a wet suit

It all boils down to personal preference and resistance to cold. Last year in February, most people I saw diving in Cozumel wore 3 mil shorties or full suits. I personaly used a 5 mm full suit and a 1 mm tee shirt underneath and was cold at times. I did see a couple of guys in board shorts only...

First Time to Coz - Need Advice

Another option : Stay at Hotel Pepita (less than $40 a night, in town 3 blocks from Waterfront, quiet secure place, no safe but never had any issue) for 5 nights and book with Dive with Martin. 5 nights accomodation : 200 total = 100 per person 4 2-tank trips package including equipment = 235 1...

First Time to Coz - Need Advice

Did you get my answer to your PM ? Aqua Safari is right in town, on the waterfront/boardwalk, the hotel is upstairs, the dive shop downstairs and their pier across the street. Don't know about the safe as I never stayed there. According to their Website the $322 prices pp includes the IVA...

PFO testing in the area ?

Thanks everyone for the answers. EllenE and Amazz's stories are truly inspiring, I can relate to the denial part of the DCS, in Cozumel last year I often felt unusual fatigue, slight vertigo and very light tingling in the fingers after the second dive. It would start after getting off the boat...

PFO testing in the area ?

Hi Sallye ! I'm planning to get on the island around Feb. 20th… but that will depend on the outcome of the meeting with the cardiologist and whether I can get screened here or there… Hope to finally meet you too.

PFO testing in the area ?

Sorry, I thought all divers knew what PFO was. Anyway, I had a somewhat unexplained type 2 DCS hit last year, which required two chamber rides on the island. My dive doctor here in France wants me tested for PFO, the cardiologist (who is also a dive specialist) has already done a basic...

PFO testing in the area ?

Planning on going to Coz for 3 months in February, but I want to get tested for PFO as I got a DCS hit last year. There's a 2 month waiting list at the public hospital here in Paris… Anyone knows if I can get PFO screened on the island (or in Cancún) and how much it would cost ? Thanks.

First Time to Coz - Need Advice

There are many dive sites towards the South end (not necessarily the best)… BUT all dive ops will take you there, even the ones that pick up in town (north). Unless you are seasick / don't like boat rides / are in a hurry to get back on shore / want to do 4 dives a day, eat and sleep and don't...

First Time to Coz - Need Advice

If you don't mind sharing a room with your dive buddy and are not set on all inclusive, you can probably lower the costs. A hotel room in town shoud be around USD50 a night (total), meals can be had for anywhere between USD5 (many good local joints) and USD30 per person. If you're a heavy...
