Perhaps you should specify if you are on the surface or at depth. I think it might make a difference in the responses. Personally, I would be less inclined to separate if we were still below the surface.
Maybe there is a correlation -- at least within the fat itself. There was a story a week or two ago about a couple of cancer researchers in Texas who have discovered a particular peptide that caused a 30% weight loss in mice. Apparently they were looking to find a way to selectively kill off the...

Very interesting read, if a bit dry. There's actually several more bones of contention than H2Andy's synopsis.
Just to play devil's advocat for a moment:
Given that he was freshly refreshed and apparently paying attention to his air consumption, perhaps he had decided to ascend and intended only to inform you why he was leaving. A reasonable courtesy: He didn't "thumb" the dive to you because you...
I don't know if there is anything particularly attractive about his body chemistry, or if he did something in a previous life that roused the ire of God, or if he's just plain unlucky. We had a bunch of tests done (nerve conductivity etc.) but that was to check for damage not to determine...
My son was hit by lightning. Twice. In both cases he was not the highest object in the immediate vicinity nor would one think he was the most electrically conductive.
The first time, he was indoors, watching a storm through the closed window. He had wanted to go outside and play in the rain...
I have always been able to see fine (eg: well enough to read) underwater. I was quite surprised to learn I was in the minority after joining this board -- it never occured to me that other people couldn't.
You would have to have one of those pumps that magically turns water into air. I'm not sure where you can buy them so maybe that can be your next DIY project?
Interesting. There was an investigation of insurance company practices by W5 a year or so ago (bear in mind that this was of the Canadian insurance industry, nothing to do with diving in Cozumel) and one of the things about it that sticks in my mind was the principle of "deny, deny, deny"...
No. I was thinking of those 3 or 4 dives per day situations, where one would be hauling many cylinders to and from the dive site or boat. Of course, you have a good point with reference to boat diving over several days. One could probably leave the weights in the boat overnight.
Interesting that the article keeps jumping between metric and imperial units of measurement. Are the Phillipines currently converting to metric? It certainly sounds like the computers were set to display metric measurements. I wonder if the divers thought the display was in feet?
(Just...
Now that's an interesting point. While it's true that more weight on the belt would be needed to offset the cylinder's bouyancy, that weight would only need to be carried to the dive site once. On a multi-dive day that means less total weight needs to be hauled to and from the beach or boat...
Oh, um, by the way: I have read numerous times the claim that "any LDS with employees" must comply with the air testing requirements of the OHSA. Sorry but that ain't necessarily so either. I suspect the underlying assumption employees would be instructing students for money gave rise to the...
Z180.1-00 does not apply to SCUBA. I quote from the CSA website: "2. For diving operations, refer to CSA Standard CAN/CSA-Z275.2."
edit:
I also checked the Regulations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act:
Purity of Breathing Mixtures
29. Each employer associated with a...
Is there more to it than that? Some preliminary preparation and education perhaps? Or just jump in the hole and go swimming to be certified? Do you already have some experience in an overhead environment?
As written, it doesn't sound particularly educational.
Are you suggesting that all the air will exit a BCD even if the diver is oriented so the valve is lower than some or all of the bladder? I have found it necessary to roll a bit so the dump valve is highest to get the last of the air out. It may be easier to accomplish with a BCD than a drysuit...
I did not witness this, but I a few years ago I read a news item about a fellow who strapped heavy weights to his feet (brake drums?) and tried to walk across the bottom of a lake while breathing through a length of garden hose from the surface.
Needless to say, he didn't get very far.
