@diverrex: Thanks, yeah don't wanna skimp. I already have an Oceanic alt/octo, so I'm only looking at primary 1st/2nd stage sets for under $300. Oceanic, HOG, ScubaPro, Atomic, Hollis, Sherwood, etc. I'm not familiar with ODS, but will read more.
Don't see many posts about Cressi, are their regulators not of the highest reputation like the others in this thread? How does the Cressi XS Compact Pro / MC9 SC model stack up? Or keep it off my list?
Thanks Stuart. I have an XS-Foto GoMask with the GoPro mount in center. Not sure how experienced divers feel about those, I might be changing up. I think I'll pickup one of the $60 SeaVision magenta models and try it out.
Just an FYI @pinshootr , your giant image is making the entire thread...
@stuartv : You don't find the magenta lenses too dark at lower recreational depths? Do you know the difference between the Sea Vision 2000, 2100, and Ultra (2200?) But I do like the idea of those HydroTacs.
Thanks, yes definitely going to be active.
Most likely by boat trips, not live-aboard. I'll be seeing a few things in Ecuador/Rainforest, but the bulk of the trip will be a week on Galapagos. I'll be talking to the two women at the FirstWorld Dive & Travel Center in Englewood. Apparently...
True, agree. That's why I'm taking my time and definitely staying in the mid-range for pricing, not cheapies.
Nice, I grew up in Boulder. I wonder if he works at Weaver or another shop.
Cool, I should've stated in the o.p. that for now I'm purely a rec. diver, not commercial, tech., cave, etc. When I move to Florida next year I might get into more advanced stuff like that. And I'm not looking to service my own equipment. Would have an official tech. do that for me regularly...
So I've done a ton of reading from about four different "Regulator Buying Guides" for 2015, along with reviews of the top models, trying to stay around $300, or less. I'd like some of the special features without sacrificing quality. Like solid manufacturer, good reputation, adjust. 2nd stage...
Lots of excellent info in this thread. My career is engineering, but I'm also a senior in Biology, part-time goes real slow. I doubt I'd ever switch careers, but this stuff is good to know.
Side-note: One thing for sure, I wanna meet @Wookie, holy ****. You had/have an epic life journey...
Lol! Hope so, geeze. That 26" or whatever bore hole 200ft. down is scary tight looking. Been following this series, just for fun. Please everyone, no spoilers on any of this series, heh.
I'm the type of weirdo that watches Bering Sea Gold too, so that says something...
Oh it was eBay, not new. I watch eBay/Amazon/etc. all the time, along with LeisurePro, Scuba.com, DiversDirect, etc. Searching on all the gear I'm looking to build this Winter. I got lucky, and leap of faith based on seller reputation, close inspection of pictures, etc. Appears perfect...
Keep us updated on that. Using some kind of nano-PC like Raspberry Pi or similar? That would be a challenging but fun project! Curious, where would you get the various sensors? (among a hundred other questions, lol.)
Definitely important to remember altitude! Will be playing with my new DC as well, hopefully no issues, so I'll have a regular hosed SPG as a backup to compare with. That sucks they don't have it lit up more. Will probably just dive in a t-short and swimming trunks for those temps, heh.
I'm...
Next month I'll be doing my AOW cert. here. It's located East of SLC, near Midway, UT. Any advice, tips, dangers, restaurants, etc. I should know about ahead of time? I'm sure my dive shop will fill us in, but it's good to know all the real world experience from others who've done it...
