    Whale Shark probability

I went once with Seahorse Dive to Gladden Spit, last May within prime time, 7 days after the full moon. They saw two medium sized Whale Sharks the day before. We saw ZERO, and no other animals of any kind. Total bust, but not the dive shop's fault obviously. It's just a big gamble. IF I do...

    1st timer to Cozumel

I have TONS to report back on this trip! Since I experienced both Coz and Mujeres, four dive trips with two dive outfits (incl. some scary hard currents on Santa Rosa Wall 3 times), half dozen restaurants (incl. a couple diff. Rellenos), two hotels, one Sea Turtle hatchling rescue, one Whale...

Quick trip report - Blue XT-Sea

Two excellent AM trips with Blue XT~Sea. Monday with Martin, Santa Rosa Wall and San Clemente. And Tuesday with Pedro, Palancar Bricks and forgot the other drift site. Will elaborate details later, in my "Coz First Timer" thread... P.S. The Palancar Bricks swim-through tunnels were...

Awesome, which outfit? How much was it? Are you staying on Mujeres?

    1st timer to Cozumel

So I'm here now, settling in at the Casa Mexicana. Beautiful view from my deck. So happy I splurged for it. Already had a very interesting time, just flying here. But for starters, guess where I am?! Hint, "Comida del día"...

Confused with what my LDS is directing me towards?

Yeah, no middle-ground people, which always worries me. BUT, like I said, a few years ago when I was in the market shopping for my first BCD, I remember I read a LOT more positives than the few semi-obscure oddball, very specific reasons for the haters. One was that it feels "bulky". I...

    1st timer to Cozumel

Jeannie signed me up for the Sea Turtle Conservation hatchling project, exciting!! I get to prep food and hand feed our three big Sea Turtles at the Denver Aquarium, but never seen babies before. Much less the nests and helping the babies get to the sea. <3 Cielito Lindo added to my list...

Confused with what my LDS is directing me towards?

I hate that as well, and love that I chose the Axiom with hybrid front/back air pockets. If you have to float on the surface, waiting for a long line of people still trying to drop off the boat, it's a complete pleasure just floating at the surface, not angled forward. Especially noticeable in...

Confused with what my LDS is directing me towards?

You should read LOTS of reviews to get both sides, Google, Amazon, here on ScubaBoard, etc. Before I bought a BCD I read hundreds, on many different brands, incl. the Axiom i3. I read way more people who liked their i3 over a manual control, than people who "hated" the i3. I LOVE mine. But I...

Well I'm a cheese freak too, so that works out fine, lol! My favorite is when they use a giant soft green chili, smothered in a spicy pork green chili. Is the traditional Mexican Rellenos soft (egg batter), or crispy (American/Wonton wrapper), or do they do both like up here? Yes I'm one of...

    Another quick trip report

I read that Columbia Deep is hard currents and only for advanced divers and strong swimmers? That Turtle sounds like the Nurse Sharks in Belize! They're all hovering around divers because the DM/DG's all spear Lions and feed them to the Nurses. At least 50% of my dives (mostly Ambergris, but...

    1st timer to Cozumel

Ooooh, awesome, thanks! The first thing I clicked on by chance on the Casa Suzana map was the "Lobster Shack", lol. Since my three favorite cuisine's are Indian, Italian, and Mexican (in no order, plus throw Lobster, Ribeye, or FiletMignon in there too), so yes, FOOD will be a big deal. I...

    1st timer to Cozumel

Update on my trip. I booked a week at Casa Mexicana, ocean view balcony, top (5th) floor, woot! Booked diving with Blue XT~Sea for two days, then booking Tres Pelicanos for two days. Going to either Coba or Tulum ruins for one day. Then moving on to Isla Mujeres for 3 days, incl. one dive...

Georgia Aquarium whaleshark dive vs Mexico whaleshark snorkel?

I'm going on a W.S. snorkel trip off Isla Mujeres in a couple of weeks! I'll be sure to report back on that.

One of the tall ships came in today...!!

Dang, it was only 3 days?! I'll be there next week, sucks I missed it. I love tall ships!!

Divemaster did NOT get in the water...

I'm the same way, I want it as high as possible because I hate bumping the back of my had on the 1st stage when you suddenly spot cool stuff above you. If they setup the gear, I ask them, otherwise I'll move it up myself.

Divemaster did NOT get in the water...

All my dives in the Keys were with Rainbow Reef in Key Largo. All of them had a DG in the water with us. We setup our own gear, transferred between tanks, etc. For my dives off Pompano Beach, with South Florida Diving HQ, they also had a DG. All my dives in Maui (Ed Robinson and Bubbles...

    Divers Riding Whale Shark

I am an Aquarist Assistant to one of the curators of the Denver Aquarium, Jessica Miller, but not an expert myself. She is a degree'd Biologist and former Senior Aquarist at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. I will have her join the board (she's an avid diver, but avoids web forums...

    Oceanic VTX Dive Computer

@Gerard Bourck & @scubadada Got my box back from Huish/Oceanic last week. It took a month, so they comp'd me the shipping ($13), no biggie. It's a refurb'd real VTX (not Aeris), woot! But looks brand new, flawless on the outside. The only notes in the email invoice (from tech Jose there)...
