Looking into buying gear. Bcd or bpw?

I had this dilemma recently. Michael and Eric at the top of this page had excellent posts and advice ! This forum is a great source of information but highly biased towards the BP/W, maybe fairly so though. I had a jacket style BCD first. Learned in one, dove subsequently on my AOW and a...

    Best BP/W

I had a similar post to this one not too long ago as I tried to decide on which BP/W to go for. Halcyon was, as is here, highly recommended. However, when I considered cost vs quality, I figured Halcyon was too much for little, if any improvement in quality over DSS or Dive Rite. I opted for...

    Fin showdown !

I've tried the Holls F2 fins, F1 fins, power plana ... the foot pocket is just too big in each. I have no experience with OMS, UTD, 'and others'.

Electronic divelogs on IOS and PC

I'm not sure about divelogs.de but I use MacDive on my computer and Dive Log on my iPhone. They sync nicely with each other, show everything (and more) that I want and seem to work with external sites as well. After all, they are different log software companies and work together.

    Fin showdown !

I have been trying to find a great fin for both travel and power. I live in area of the world where I can not try before I buy and can only do so on trips abroad. I would like a fin that can handle decent currents for diving in the Maldives but also something I can travel with without worrying...

    power plana foot pocket sizing

I have dived with neither, I have only tried them both on in the shop so please feel free to ignore the following. I was trying open heel with 3mm booties. The quattros fitted very nicely (M) but I felt my heel wasn't quite all the way in. He didn't have the next size up so I placed them back...

Maldives Aggressor- VERY BAD EXPERIENCE- If you have a scheduled trip read this!

Although it may be too late for our unfortunate OP, I did a live aboard in the Maldives in early September aboard the MV Orion (Constellation Fleet). It was my first live aboard and absolutely amazing it was as well. If any of you want a lifetime trip on a live aboard in the Maldives - that's...

Hose length for Rec only diver

A short update to my thread: I have dived my first couple of dives with the BP/W and used a 40" hose. I love the set up. I had a chance to practise an OOA with an instructor as we waited for the queue to board the boat again and had no issues at all with the 40". In fact, it may have pushed...

Hose length for Rec only diver

I suspect it may introduce a complacency where it's so easy that it could feel normal. I wouldn't like to expand an OOA situation by making it uncomfortable but disregarding it as an event is worse in my opinion.

Hose length for Rec only diver

That's my hope. The vast majority of LDS and divers here are PADI through and through so no long hoses but I've seen one LDS with a OWS rig being set up in the window so there is hope yet that they may stock something in the near future.

Hose length for Rec only diver

I sense some focus may be required. Being the person who originally posed the question, let me please describe the kind of diving I do. The vast majority is open, warm, tropical water (Maldives, Middle East, Egyptian Red Sea) with the odd wreck (yes ... Overhead environment but it is still rec...

    Hello and small dive watches...

My wife swears by the Scubapro Meridian ... chose it due to her small wrists.

Hose length for Rec only diver

It seems to me that the general opinion (on Scubaboard at least) is that the 7' hose is best overall!! I think it really needs to be coupled with a short hose on a bungie around my neck for the octo. My LDS, unfortunately, has neither and can only supply the 40" with a swivel joint. I think I...

Hose length for Rec only diver

When wrapped around behind your head, is there friction on the back of your neck or tugging on the second stage? Is it something you get used to if so? ---------- Post added October 11th, 2014 at 11:07 PM ---------- Don't fret Lorenzoid, I'm listening! I have issues accessing a lot of the...

Hose length for Rec only diver

Thank you for the rapid responses. Lorenzoid - although I like the idea and philosophy of the Hogarthian style, I prefer personal practicality and would prefer a more personalised setup if adjustments to the default Hog style may dictate I do so. I am interested that the 5' is too short for...

Hose length for Rec only diver

Hi all, Time to open tonight's debate: I know this has been covered many times on various threads but I would like a little more opinion on the shorter 40" hose routed under your arm for the second stage. I am still inexperienced (40 dives) AOW, I have just moved to BP/W with a great kit from...

    Great new BP/W

Thanks ddmattos - I used that to try and size the new BP but when sizing the crotch strap, using this guide, it feels too loose. It felt like it really wasn't going to be of any use.
