Time For Some Industry Standards for Dive Computer Alarms

Yes it is. How many dives are conducted in that same timeframe? This is all USA Today stats you reference. Read the DAN incident reports in detail. Also note that these numbers are going down over the years due to better training and more reliable equipment (actually death numbers have stayed...

Time For Some Industry Standards for Dive Computer Alarms

You are an idiot in everything you said. 150 is a drop in the bucket, and I'd venture to say 1/2 those are medical incidents while diving. A computer alarm wouldn't resolve 10% of those deaths.

Time For Some Industry Standards for Dive Computer Alarms

I don't believe the duo's came with gauge mode. I had one years ago but have since moved to a shearwater. The original post is a horrible idea. If you aren't managing the points emphasized as reasons for alarms, then please shred your C card and take up golf.

    Petrel vs Suunto Gekko

Not really up to answering how to align it to your prior computer, but this video from Shearwater does a nice job explaining GF. Obviously it's not a class on the subject and I suggest you go to the Shearwater site and read the documents in their library. http://youtu.be/O81vX79X_mA

Does anyone have real world experience with the newer X1 computer compared to the VR3

Shearwater and forget it. There the best, then there is everything else. Customer service is top notch, should you need it (though not likely).

    DM or TEC certification route?

Good point. I should have been more explicit in my post. Thanks for the follow up!

Really.... Tell me this cant be his "real" actual depths

My comment was a reply to your comment that tech diving limits were around 330 ft. That is not the case. Be it in a drysuit or wetsuit, those are some serious dives.

Really.... Tell me this cant be his "real" actual depths

Rebreather divers have successfully returned from roughly 1000 ft. Do a search on David Shaw and his dive in Bushman's Cave. He made one successful dive to 900+ ft. The return dive he passed away.

    DM or TEC certification route?

DM teaches you how to teach. Tech gives more dive skills. Which are you interested in?

A note of recognition for Tobin and DSS

Puppy pile on Tobin!! I have a Torus 49 and an LCD 30. Approaching a couple hundred dives between them and other than some ruat stains from inside wrecks they look brand new. Both are bullet proof. His plates are top notch and I love the bolt on weight plates as well. As my Mom always says -...

Can you wear a gel bikini whilst scuba diving?

As a recovering DM I would say skip the bikini and go with a one pc swimsuit. I've seen several women pull their tops off trying to get out of a wetsuit. Not that I've complained about it :)

    Console vs Wrist

God bless the Internet, where people can bicker the mundane. I have dove both. I prefer wrist mount. So long as you don't kill me or yourself while we dive together I really don't care what you use. One isn't better than the other. It's preference. Dive them both and make a decision. Your...

How much should an airfill be?

I wasn't disagreeing, only pointing out that a compressor for a shop is much more than a personal use unit. Also note that a business would allow you to write that compressor off as a depreciating asset over the years.

How much should an airfill be?

To be fair, a compressor a shop would run would be more than $3500, plus you have filters, electric, etc. however, 100 fills a year is way low balling. That would average roughly 2 fills a week. That wouldn't cover the instructors teaching classes. I could average 100 fills a year easily on my...
