I find the zero to hero mentality hard to cope with. While understand the end goal, there needs to be serious consideration into the progression, not only from a safety factor, but a retention factor as well. I can't count the number of people I've witness storm the scene only to be gone 12-18...
And early adopters of the Xen model. It had battery issues and rather than resolve it they offered a 'solution' for just another $100. I sold it and will never own another Liquivision product.
I own a Predator and its nothing short of fantastic. Ill have a Petrel as a 2nd unit someday. The only...
That depends on your days diving and surface intervals between dives. You are basically doing two deep dives followed by a single tank to a 60 ft dive. 3 dives a day at those depths aren't going to cause an issue. I've done it for 5 years straight, including doing at least one deco dive per day...
Agreed. I used to use one DR strap as one inner tube strap. DR on top as when I stow I don't neatly do so. Enough to keep the hose secured and put of the way (one strap) is enough.
My buddies kept calling me cheap so I sprung for two DR per tank. Those thins get expensive when you have several...
Actually no, but they can be more difficult to get heavily gloved (dry gloves, 7 mm gloves, etc) under. Bungee gives you a knot to grab. I use the Dive Rite straps as they have a nice tab to grab in my dry gloves.
Tie a loop into the rope and fit it over the valve. In that knot tie in a bolt snap. Bolt snap should be tied in at about the start of the crown of the tank. Run the rope down the tank and secure it with a stainless hose clamp near the bottom. You can cover the hose clamp with clear hose (and...
Well. Here's the flaw. I wouldn't do a dive like that on a single tank. I also would treat it as ano decompression situation. I would be diving air or mix. I would have one or two deco mixes. And my buddy would have the same. We would have had conversation around gas planning, understanding each...
Actually you've just made yourself really look silly. Those of us doing these dives drill and practice for such events. We even do so without masks and other factors to ensure that you are ready when the brown hits the fan. To make a statement saying these ascents would e out of control shows...
Doubles are not something you strap into and dive to 170'. It takes time to get comfortable. Would this diver had the thought process to NOT jump into a rig they weren't comfortable in and dive till his computer screamed?
$$$$
Let me count the ways:
New buoyancy system
New reg
Possibly new tanks
Various bolt snaps, knick knacks, stuff they can sell
It's not that much more difficult.
I agree on all but one point. How is a doubles diver taking more room on rec charter? Every rec trip I've done in doubles means I set up my gear once and do both dives on the same set. If I need more gas i add an AL80 to sling (and yes - I can climb a boat ladder in my LP104s and a slung 80)...
Quattro's are great fins. Buy the ones without the fancy buckles. Throw those away and add spring straps. I own 2 pair (one pair to fit wetsuit booties. Another for deysuit boots) and love them. I've moved to SP Jets in dry suit and doubles for their weight and ability to move my big a** through...
