    30/30 question

Can you comment on what kind of water temperatures would those layers correspond to? What would be the maximum amount of insulation that you would feel comfortable using with the suit? I also fit a TLS350 on the stock sizes and I am considering a 30/30 from the factory seconds list but, given...

    GUE/DIR Question

The way I see it, there are 3 component blocks to a fundamentals class: the individual skills, the team awareness and the equipment configuration. They are all considered critical for dir diving and a course like fundamentals or essentials is meant to show how it all works together, it would not...

SAR fusion specifics + dry gloves options

Thanks for the clarification. For some reason I got the impression when reading the specs of the SAR version that it was similar to the tech, but the bullet makes a lot more sense. I am looking at different dry suit options and trying to understand the rationale behind the different options so...

    Adapting to different drysuits

Not a huge difference between drysuits then. So, why have several? With wetsuits, the different thicknesses are used for different insulation needs, but with drysuits, the bulk of the insulation comes from the undergarments right? So, apart from having some redundancy if one suit needs to be...

    Adapting to different drysuits

How much effort is it to switch between different drysuits? For example between a DUI TLS 350 or FLX50/50 and a Whites Fusion? Do they dive very differently? Does it take a couple of dives to adapt to the change or just a few minutes? I have very little experience in dry suit diving and all of...

    "Dark Narc" Experience? Advice please!

It has already been said, but my feeling is that having equipment that you are confident about is incredibly helpful in keeping calm, and sometimes it is underestimated. I was reminded of this recently when, after going for some cenote diving in MX, I decided to join a night dive in the sea with...

SAR fusion specifics + dry gloves options

I am considering a whites fusion as my first drysuit. Looking at the different options I noticed that the SAR version seems to have the left dump valve on the forearm rather than the shoulder like the others. Otherwise the SAR version seems identical (apart from color) from the fusion tech. Is...

How did you convince YOUR spouse to start diving

When I told my husband I would do a scuba course, his exact words were: "That's fine, but I will never do that". After a year of meeting lots of diving friends and hearing about our weekend excursions I could see his resolve weakening ... so I signed him up for a course with a really good...

    what drysuit would you choose

Hmmmm, that is a good reason not to use a rock boot. I can't imagine that being too fun. Where you able to get the boot/fin back on? Is that a common problem? I know when I tried the rental drysuit with the rock boots, my left foot slip partially out of the boot and made it extremely difficult...

What to expect from a DM?

I was just reading some of the posts in accidents and incidents and there was a rather long discussion about the role of the DM and expectations of divers in different parts of the world. In South East Asia, where I did most of my diving, the general expectation is that the DM is like a tour...

    what drysuit would you choose

Thanks, that makes sense. I like the idea of all built in and no "extra" shoes to worry about. On the other hand I have found that rocky shore entries with doubles are pretty hard on the soles of my feet and I appreciate some ankle support as well. And yet, I twice tried rockboots on a rental...

    Diving Doubles

Do you need a class to dive doubles? - If you have a good mentor with experience in doubles and the move from your current setup is incremental (you already dive with a backplate, etc) I would say you can easily go without a class. Having said that, a good class, will be very worth it if you can...

    what drysuit would you choose

I am in the process of getting my first drysuit myself. One thing that keeps coming up is the built in boots vs external boots (rock boots). I have seen strong opinions for both options. Can people comment on the reasons for each choice?

    DIR pockets

Another vote for x-shorts style pockets. For people who switch between suits it gives nice modularity. It is easy to remember to pack the "pocket gear" by just drying it attached to the inner loops of the pockets, that way you only need to remember one bundle of stuff :)

    The Power Of The System

I had the same experience recently when diving with Kathydee in the Mexico. We had just met the day before with the plan to take a tour of the cenotes together. Before going into the underworld, we went for some relaxed salt water diving in the local reefs. It was just all so easy. Quick...

    Looking to get into DIR

Hi there! I am the "contact" that Kathydee has mentioned. My husband (reticentdiver) and I are living in Austin since about a year and we are always looking for people to dive with ... and if they are interested in dir even more :D We both did fundies about a year ago and are trying to get in as...

    What equipment have you lost?

I lost a mask as I entered the water when helping out with an OW course . I was the last one in and thought nobody had realized, so I took my backup mask out of my pocket and continued happily for 20 minutes or so ... until the instructor starts swimming towards me and hands me back my mask...

    types of BC's

Have you had a chance to try several types of BCs in the water while diving? Were there things that you particularly liked/disliked about them? The two options you are proposing are back inflate BCs, what made you zero in on those two particular models? Without a little bit more information it...

    What would your reaction be?

Very well put ... you guys are right, I am sure the new guy is more than used to the level of embellishment from his friend and already does the appropriate discounting :) Happy diving everyone!

    What would your reaction be?

Of course the guy was "embellishing" and trying to impress ... probably not me but his less experienced friend :) Everyone meets these sorts and not just in diving. Normally, I would say no harm in that, who cares? It was not so much the exact details of the embellishments that I was worried...
