M-1 or M-2 Mask?

I have both the atomic frameless mask and the Hollis M1. For me the Hollis is far more comfortable and provides a better field of view and clarity. Actually I don't like the atomic frameless at all, and the Hollis M1 is the best mask I have tried so far. I have not tried the M2 yet.

    Where do you dive?

Thanks for the info! I see that there is not much "easy" diving there in the winter. Not completely surprising ... but I had to ask :) @ glenn: will definitively give you a shout once I am there and have my equipment. Mountain lakes in winter sounds like an interesting concept, at least in...

    Where do you dive?

Hi! I will be moving to Boulder within a month and was wondering where do you guys go to dive. I heard of the Blue Hole in Santa Rosa ... but what other places are around? How far are they from Boulder? Also, do you dive year round? I will be arriving there is December with a brand new dry...

Should I buy gear or take more classes?

Get some gear and dive! The classes you mention are a good idea, but you will get more out of them if you take them in gear you are familiar and comfortable with and with a few more dives. I personally don't think that the BCD, the computer and the regs would be the first thing to buy. Those...

    Triggers of Dive Accidents

I love this discussion. Quite apart from how to interpret the data from DAN, a lot of this could be rephrased as: How to effectively teach OOG skills while emphasizing that, apart from equipment malfunction, it should not happen? The problem is that you deal with two extreme kind of divers...

    Starting Scuba in Singapore

I did a lot of diving from Singapore with Living Seas (Living Seas - GUE Training and Scuba diving in Singapore). They are an extremely friendly group of divers, dive masters and instructors and I can't recommend them highly enough. They...

    Dive Computers and Deco

It is not always that clear. The Suunto Stinger manual claims the computer will "look you out" for 24hours. That, however, does not mean that the device stops working altogether (as I interpreted initially), it means that it will no longer give you information on NDL time remaining and so on...

    Daydreaming of Diving

Wrong? How can it be wrong? This is what scubaboard was made for! Once in a while I get a strong attack of UCI (UnCompression Illness) :D ... it is pretty severe right now ... hopefully that dry suit arrives soon ...

Are Silicone Seals Available for a White's Fusion?

The wrist seals are available now. I just ordered some for my new fusion. While ordering the suit I asked Mike (of Dive Right In Scuba) about the silicon neck seals and he said they expected them within a month ... but it seems like they have been delayed several times, so not sure if that will...

New with a ? about diving for someone with a disability

Daisy, by all means go ahead and give diving a go. Indonesia is one of the best places in the world to dive. For example, Lembeh straits in Sulawesi is a fantastic area to search for small weird critters (muck diving). That type of diving is done very slowly with no (or very slow) currents...

    Frog Kick

Is it really? I always have the impression it is not quite, especially on the end part of the kick. I can't put my finger on it tho  To the OP, I found that thinking of trying to "clap" with my feet was helpful in getting the mechanics of the end of the frog kick, especially to get...

    Beginner question about cenotes...

Cenote means "sinkhole", they are collapsed sections of underground cave systems. The "cenote" provides the access to the cave system. Cenote dives are conducted for people that just have an OW certification but, regardless of whether an operator is willing to take you I would consider the...

    better? paranoid or too comfortable?

A comfortable diver is great, a paranoid new diver is understandable, what really is worrying is a complacent diver ... no matter the level of experience. I think you handled things ok. Sure, there were other options that would have been better, but some times it is just good enough, you...

Things I learned in first 20 dives

At some point you will jump in the water with the air off ... you CAN reach your valves right?

concerned about warning label on mask

However, don't jump head first into the water while wearing a scuba mask ... I have seen more than one shatter when people do that. They do break and the glass pieces can cut, so just remember to use it for what it is intended ... have fun!

    M1 mask fit question

After going through a few masks that did not fit very well, I have been diving with the mini-shadow for nearly 2 years and was really happy with the fit. Recently I started using the M1 to replace the mini. The M1 fits very similar but a bit wider; the mask has truly excellent field of view and...

Buying gear, 1st time: Please offer feedback on my setup

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with your choices. However, given your stated interest in cave diving in the future, you might want to consider a rig that more closely approximates what most cave divers use, and as a side benefit, can probably be assembled for a cheaper price than what you...

About to take the plunge ... comments?

I am almost ready to order my first dry suit. After a lot of looking around I came up with the following configuration. Do you see an problems with it? Anything you would add/substract/change? - Whites fusion bullet with factory pockets - Fusion boots - Light Monkey balanced p-valve -...

    DIR without the gear

Yep, that's me ... unless Kathy has another friend moving to Boulder :). I will definitively reach out and try to find some people once the date gets nearer, can't wait to see the sites and meet the community there. The T1 "skills" will need a lot of work, I am just certified in August (Gideon...

    DIR without the gear

You can apply and learn a lot of the principles of DIR using your current gear and as you learn more about the system you can make up your mind whether to change some of the items and which ones are a higher priority. The ideal is to find some people around that are willing to mentor you and try...
