I'm going to ReefCi, in Belize, off the coast of Punta Gorda. It's not really a resort, per say. I strongly suspect that my only choices are going to be inflatable BCDs, but if I have an option I can try out other gear. However, if my options are limited I won't be too disappointed. I won't...
I'm going on a 2 week diving vacation at the end of Dec. and all my gear will be all-inclusive so I'm hoping I can try one or two different combinations of gear while I'm there. All the talk of back-plates & wings have got me a bit curious, so if the place I'm going has it I may try the combo...
Far be it for me to try to get a flame war going either, but what do you mean by "fly by wire?"
The BCD appeals to me because of where the inflator lever is and how easy it appears to be to always find it when needed.

Michael
If the OP doesn't mind I'd like to piggy back on his post.
I'm also considering my first set of dive gear and I've been doing a lot of reading. There's so much information and I don't really know what I should be looking for. Some of my criteria are that this gear be something that I can use...
Yeah, I'm kind of the same way. I was only supposed to use the ear drops for 7 days, which ended on Thursday, and honestly I don't think they really did anything but I used them for the allotted time.

Michael
I'm glad to say that I think my problem is just about cleared up. I can hear fine out of both ears now, and I'm getting less and less crackling and popping. Plus I don't sound like I'm in the bottom of a barrel when I talk which is a relief.

Michael
For as little as I have used it I also like the visibility of the face. I did my OW certification in Monterey Bay and viz was 6-8 feet but I was able to see the face of the Geo 2 just fine.

I don't think anyone who is interested in these types of ear plugs is trying to get away with not equalizing. At least I'm not anyway; I don't think anyone else has seriously thought that's what those ear plugs are for. Speaking for myself I would not mind a little help learning to equalize...
I'm still learning to use mine and only have 3 dives on it as well. I have also been happy with my choice despite not really knowing how to read and interpret everything yet.

Michael
The lesson I learned when I tried on my first wetsuit was to always wear a pair of jammers and a rash guard. Makes getting the suit on and off much easier!

Michael
I found this suit for sale on Leisure Pro's site and the people who reviewed it like it. They do say it might not be as durable as it could be, though, which is what you've said GrumpyOldGuy.

On the plus side I did pick up my c-card today. Boy do I look goofy in the picture they took of me. My drivers license picture looks better.

I think it may be a bit of both. Just to be clear, I did not see a doctor. I saw a nurse practitioner in the emergency room at my local VA (which is my primary care facility), this is where I was told to go so the VA could see me as soon as possible. She did tell me to make another appointment...
It is certainly possible I have misinterpreted the diagnosis. I am reading off the sheet of paper I was given on which the diagnosis is written "otitis externa, eustachian tube congestion." The NP told me my eardrums are intact.
I know I can get some ear plugs that don't let the water in as...
I will definitely do what the Doc says.
I haven't had any pain, except on Saturday night, all week. Fortunately. I just sound like I'm in the bottom of a barrel.
Thanks for the tip about the ear wash. I'll look into that a bit more.
Regards,
Michael
Last weekend (the 2nd and 3rd) to took my open water certification classes, and passed, in Monterey Bay. However for the past week I've had water draining from my ears and clogged up ears; I've felt like I've had earplugs in. In went to the doctor this past Friday and was diagnosed with "otitis...
