    Solo diving

Please, do not. With 9 dives under your weight belt you really don't have the experience or training to be solo diving. There's a reason that most cert. agencies require at least 100 dives to take a self-reliant course. Please, do not do this.

    Opening Tank Valve

This is the method I do when turning on the air on a tank. I press the purge valve on my primary and gently open the tank valve and turn it all the way open.

Reminder of boat etiquette as we emerge from covid

Ha ha! I had someone get REALLY offended at that one, once. They were a very big Bruce Willis fan. So I got Bangkok Women Really Are Fellas stuck in his head.

Advice requested: Packing scuba gear for air travel?

This is very much how I pack my gear. OMS Slipstream fins in the sides to provide rigidity, BCD (deflated) along the bottom, regs (in padded case) in the middle of the bag with everything else packed in around them. Two masks in original plastic cases. Exposure protection generally goes on top...

    preventing mask from fogging?

For what it is worth, I've found what works for me is applying white toothpaste to both sides of a new mask lens and let it sit overnight. Then wash the mask in a mild detergent to get all the toothpaste off. Let the mask dry. Then I'll breath on the lens the fog from my breath should be even...

    Good cheap backup mask

I'm with @Doc Harry. My backup masks (yes, plural) are all the same brand and model. Scubapro Solara.

Does sea sickness medications effect airtime?

I doubt the sea sickness meds are dramatically affecting your breathing. My suggestions for you are to slow down, relax and practice long slow breaths. Try 4 seconds in and 6 seconds out. Also, getting your weighting dialed in will help your buoyancy a lot, which will also help your air...

    How bad was this?

I haven't read the entire thread, but I'm in agreement with the replies I have read. Missing you on a roll call 3 times is completely unacceptable. I've fired DMs/Instructors for less. And you never should have been allowed to enter the water alone. Thanks for telling us the name of the dive...

    Peeing Etiquette

Lord, that is just rude, gross and inappropriate.

    Nude diving?

I've seen plenty of 100th naked dives. Not my thing, though. For their 1000 dive one of my buddies dove with nothing but a tank (no regs), fins, mask and weight belt. He made a 40 minute dive breathing off the tank. He did have a safety diver along, just in case.

Never Really Used My Gear- Should it be Serviced?

Nope, just regs and BCs. In the case of Aqua Lung gear, for example, to keep the free parts for life the gear needs to be serviced on a regular schedule or you lose the perks. For myself I'd just like to be conservative with my gear and get it serviced since I'm not diving as much as I used to...

Never Really Used My Gear- Should it be Serviced?

    Don't I know it!

Never Really Used My Gear- Should it be Serviced?

I'd suggest keeping up with the yearly servicing no matter how frequently or infrequently you use the gear. In the case of Aqua Lung gear make sure you've registered it on their website to keep up with the free parts for life program.

    Rec Diving a Pony

All very true. I probably should have added "within reason."

    Rec Diving a Pony

I haven't read the entire thread, just yet, but my suggestion would no don't ditch the OCTO. When I'm diving with a redundant air supply my attitude towards that tank is "that's my air" and no one else is going to get it. Especially if I'm diving solo. In your example, unless you have briefed...

Yep. I've sneezed through my reg more than once.

The Importance of Logging your Dives. The Advantages for new divers (and old)

I log all of my dives. I sync them from my dive computer to Mac Dive, which then syncs to the cloud so the data is available on all my devices. It also stores all my cert cards so when a dive shop asks I can just show them the DM card and/or Nitrox, Solo, etc. I find it very convenient.

Who Needs a wetsuit for tropical water diving anyway?

When diving in tropical waters I typically dive with just a Shark Skin long sleeve and board shorts. If I'm doing multiple dives a day (i.e. 4 a day) for multiple days I'll probably wear the Shark Skin trousers also. Or I might just wear a rash guard.

If I could buy only one piece of gear, what should I get?

I'd agree with most folks and recommend mask, booties, fins and computer. I do agree with @drk5036 that fins are not a necessity like mask and computer are, but if you find a pair of fins that you like then buy them and have them all the time. For a computer I'd suggest an Oceanic GEO 4.0 or...
