A repository of 3D print STL sources

No, but using TPU with an FDM machine might work. There are SLA resins that are suitable for prolonged skin contact but I'm not sure if any of those are flexible. Most SLA resins are pretty toxic, even when fully cured. The gold standard would be a silicone, but I'm not aware of a good printer...

    Question FIRST BONAIRE TRIP

I run really warm (like, 7mm wetsuit and toasty warm in Monterey, sometimes without gloves). Bonaire in October I was wearing shorts and a sport/compression shirt. I was very comfortable. I brought my own gear but there's plenty of rental stuff. Make sure to do a night dive at the salt pier!

    Technical Diving Considerations for PRK/LASIK/LASEK

Have you looked at SMILE? I had that last year.

Making electricity with scuba regulator, has it been done?

Your biggest issue if you want to test this is available parts. Existing air motors are generally setup for high CFM air supply, and really high RPM. They are basically turbines. The low air use of a diver (compared to the supply from a shop compressor) means you'll probably not even spin the...

    Toroidal propellers

I'm not a aerodynamics/hydrodynamics engineer... But as I understand it, toroidal propellors improve efficiency because they don't produce tip vortexes. Correctly designed ducted propellers shouldn't produce tip vortexes as the duct stops them from forming. So while these propellers are...

    Hot water suits for scuba?

It's possible, but a self contained system that uniformly distributed heat similar to what astronauts wear would be very expensive and high maintenance. Electric heaters have far fewer potential failure points.

Making electricity with scuba regulator, has it been done?

For a fixed volume, yes. Boyle's law/ideal gas equation. Although I'm a little rusty, its over 20 years since I had to learn that stuff. The difference is that temperature is energy that will be lost out of the system, into the water for example. As the gas leaves the tank, it goes through...

    Closed Shearwater Teric

Hmmm. Given how far OT this has gone. Maybe I should sell the 2 computers I have and get this one.

    Are backplate dimensions standardized?

Quick turn laser cutting and even overseas machining is cheaper and even more accessable than ever. If you have a dxf you can get a beautiful plate made from whatever material you want. (For example, instead of CF, how about FR4 or G10?)

Octopus Farming - a firm no from me 👎

I've not actually checked, but in research at least I'm told that there are minimal guidelines if any for cephalopods. Certainly far fewer than rodents and many species of octopus are smarter than rats.

    Eyedrops for Near-Vision Issues

There are a number of side effects (it's also been around forever it's just clever marketing now), plus the way it works is problematic for diving. All it does is constrict your pupils, just like closing the aperture on a camera it increases the depth of field and brings more things into focus...

    Question Double hose backplate

I had my own made based on a photocopy of a real VDH plate. I don't know what's happening with VDH, but if there isn't going to be any more of those plates I at least have a vendor and can get some made. I had mine made from brass, on account of being a weirdo. I think stainless would have been...

Air activated pocket & foot warmers - Are they dangerous?

Without knowing exactly what are the limiting factors in the reaction it's wise to assume that the ppo2 will increase the reaction rate. Just how much is an unknown. It might be linear, or exponential (additional heat accelerates most reactions). Another factor is the limited o2 inside the...

Air activated pocket & foot warmers - Are they dangerous?

Are the single use ones that much cheaper than the reusable ones? The reusable ones are a completely closed cycle that might be effected by pressure but not by gas mix. I'd be worried just because you'd have no easy way of removing them if they do get too hot.

Can't book Batik flights with US credit card. Help?

Many other countries require a specific type of credit card security for online purchases. Strangely Visa doesn't provide that service to US banks (despite it being a service they provide to the rest of the world). So the payment cannot complete. I've had the issue when trying to make online...

    DIY LiDAR Thread

Any reason why lidar and not structured light? There are lots of cheap modules using structured light for 3D scanning. It would probably be easier and cheaper to use several of those to cover 360 degrees, than going full lidar. Unless you need the long range?

How to proceed with conflicting dive buddy?

If I want to end the dive I'm ending the dive. If they want to stop having a buddy that's their call. But if they stay down it's because they decided to dive solo. I have a buddy who I dive with regularly (if not very often) and our number one rule is that anyone can call a dive for any reason...

    Info Cannery Row Aquatics Closing

They took over the place during the pandemic, I'm sure things have been very tough for them. Only met the staff once but they seemed like good people. Shame, but if it's the right thing... Just hope someone keeps the location as a scuba shop.
