Divers vs non divers, is there a happy medium?

This didn't exist the last time I stayed and is good to know. Depending on your group and what this amounts to, it would impact my willingness to suggest CDM. I dive during the day and the ships are leaving when I get back so it wouldn't impact me very much. That beach area used to be...

Divers vs non divers, is there a happy medium?

Casa del Mar has worked for me in similar situations. Non-divers have liked the place for what it is. It has that resort feel but isn't as big and/or grand. Quaint. Very nice grounds. It's across the street from the ocean, but has a "behind the seawall" beach with lounge chairs and palapas...

    I Got a Hall Pass!!!

Ouch. I suppose that's due to zoning. Blue Angel is much closer to town than Casa del Mar. That said, it is down in the noise and as much as I like Casa del Mar, I'd be inclined to stay at Blue Angel for this kind of trip and the circumstances described by the OP.

    I Got a Hall Pass!!!

Do you know or recall what a taxi to the square costs from Blue Angel? A mile walk sounds like more of a hike than the OP is after, but even at 90 pesos one way from Casa del Mar, it can be looked at as though it's about $10.50US a day on top of whatever the room costs. If Blue Angel is less...

    I Got a Hall Pass!!!

The "action" at the Aldora pier in the morning is fun to watch. You'll have a nice little walk right on the water to and from the pier. Good meals will be a breeze. You'll have a great time and it'll absolutely be ok.

    I Got a Hall Pass!!!

I think several to many shops pick up there, but you'll be walking from your hotel to the Aldora pier. Not a big deal but it's more walking than if your hotel has a pier. I've never stayed at the places I mentioned other than Casa Mexicana, so I'm not sure about the facilities at those hotels...

    I Got a Hall Pass!!!

This might come down to how far you are willing to walk to bunches of restaurants and/or how far you want to walk to get on your dive boat. If you stay "downtown" for instance at Casa Mexicana, Suites Bahia or Colonial, you'll be very close to restaurants, but you'll either walk to a downtown...

    Coz versus live aboard.

I did a Blackbeard's Cruise about 14 years ago, when they were still leaving out of Miami. I've done many trips to Cozumel. The diving is different. The experience is vastly different. When/If you read the words, "...like camping at sea..." in any of the links drrich provided, believe them...

    Best Hotel for Non-Diver Friends

I prefer smaller over bigger, but doesn't Park Royal also have a sandy, "walk into the ocean" beach and not just a pool, but also a hot tub next to the ocean? For the record, any of those dive ops that will go north of the marina and swing around the cruise ships to pick you up at the CDM dock...

    Best Hotel for Non-Diver Friends

"Best" will depend on what you and your friends want. One of the things I like about Casa del Mar is that it splits the difference between a hotel and a resort. It's small, but they have nicely kept grounds, a restaurant, a pool with a swim up bar, tennis courts and a hot tub. They're across...

Looking for Scenic Shore Discover Dive

My first ever dive was with Eduardo and agree with your statements. I would also add that his instruction style was excellent. Very thorough. Wouldn't matter if he was teaching you to dive or throw a frisbee, he was really, really good. Oh, I don't think you can dive in the lagoon. You're...

Looking for Scenic Shore Discover Dive

Paprika is the restaurant that serves Tikila, the bar/shore dive place. Scuba Shack, Casa del Mar and Tikila, (going south to north) are all basically the same area. I've gotten in at all three places. I'd recommend Tikila if you dive there. I've done the Chankanaab (Park) shore dive twice...

    Barracuda Hotel inquiry

I've stayed at Casa del Mar many times but it's been awhile. She'd want a ground floor room, but my recollection is that there are about 5 steps to go up (or down) from the lobby to the ground floor. Though not Casa del Mar or Blue Angel accommodations, right next door to Casa del Mar (between...

Stay in Playa del Carmen or Cozumel?

Deep Blue leaves from a dock downtown at 9am, but I agree with others that have suggested staying on Cozumel.

    Blowing Stink in Galveston

The link to the chart I used is in Christi's post #29 on this thread. It's good to read her notes about the chart too. I've been there in January several times and haven't missed a day. February, yeah. March, yeah. Even April. You never know. I've just been lucky. Personally, I...

    Blowing Stink in Galveston

If you consider Christi's really cool chart to be hard data, January is the most consistent month in terms of port closures. It's the only month without a blank. February comes in second with only 1 blank year. Cumulatively from 2010 to 2017 January has the most closures with 17. October...

COZUMEL 2019 TRIP REPORT You won't believe this.

About the easiest way to 4 tank is to be dropped at a beach club or restaurant south of the marina, like Playa Paradise or the Money Bar. I'm curious as to other possible places to be dropped. I've only been dropped at those two places. You have some lunch, and then the dive op picks you up...

Returning to Coz Next Week, Diving with Salty Endeavors Again

Across the street from the Park Royal and a little north is the Atlantis Submarine center. The museum, downtown just a couple blocks (?) north of the square, is a neat couple of hours. If you're asking about after your Tulum trip, I'm a fan of Xcaret. It's an all day kind of place and I...
