    Helium Billing

Depends on how many tanks the dive center has. It broke my heart when I had to dispose of deep bailout tanks to make sure the oc group next week has enough deco stages. Especially hurt when I was not the one breathing the helium for free.

Is the surface the most dangerous part of the dive?

When I used to dm for a living I would give the same weight belt to pretty much every customer, 10kg with a 15L steel tank and a 7mm one piece and not many of them would complain. Trust me, there are more divers who are diving heavily overweighed, and are actually incapable of diving without...

Is the surface the most dangerous part of the dive?

I would say the descent is much more tricky. Most of the problems happen underwater, but they become visible on the surface.

Blue Crabs - Italy & Mediterranean

Steam it, crack open the legs, get the meat out, clean out the gills and guts and make a nice salad served in the head of the crab. We call them Grancigula, or Gransigula, leftovers from our Venetian overlords :D Sadly that crab was so heavily overfished in my area that instead of thousands of...

Blue Crabs - Italy & Mediterranean

Due to Lessepsian migration, lionfish are already in the Mediterranean! I know, the first one in the Adriatic was caught 500m from my bedroom window. They will be a lot easier to market as we already eat scorpion fish, meat is very similar, the lion fish even has better texture.

Blue Crabs - Italy & Mediterranean

They have completely ruined some fisheries and they are starting to mess with mussels. Like you guys with lionfish it will take time until we learn to eat them.

    Booze, Drugs, And Diving

Ill tell you the story of two Polish divers, we will call them 1 and 2 because if someone told their wife's 1 and 2s last act on this earth would be to end me, probably with vodka. They would come to Vis to dive for a week. They would bring their own gasses, boosters and booze. Actually most of...

    Vis Island Recommendations

No matter what I recommend, you will be diving Teti, reef 3 and 6 (actually called inner and outer reef). Try to get in a dive on the B-24 Tulsamerican, it's 40m but well worth the few minutes of deco you may pick up.

    Booze, Drugs, And Diving

Nitrogen narcosis is a instant hangover cure. It's also a great way to get bent. Most hungover people are dehydrated and every bent rec diver I ever saw was dehydrated before getting into water.

Sorb-how much bouncing around in car is bad for packed scrubbers?

If it's properly packed no amount of bouncing is gonna move it around. Boats vibrate a lot more than any halfway modern car ever will and most people survive diving from them. There are other reasons that you might have had co2 related troubles.

Question Why are felt soled booties not more widely used?

They are used by shallow water workers all over the globe, great for walking on slimy surfaces.

    Rapid Descent Rate

Swimming down hard can cause problems with co2 narcosis, as well as good old fashioned overexertion. With a scooter i found that the largest problem is the other divers getting disturbed with me screaming :"WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" and interpreting it as distress.

Suit filed in case of "Girl dead, boy injured at Glacier National Park

You don't need to have a 3 year instructor apprenticeship to know that putting 15kg of lead on to a tiny girl and sending her diving in a dry suit with no inflator hose is bad.

Backplate hole not aligned with harness - Bad design or bad user?

You guys do realise that the grommet is only there in case that the webbing aligns with the wing holes? The webbing is generic chinesium brand so it's made like that to be used with any plate. You don't have to use it, and webbing will not slide just because the bolt is not securing it...

Rainbow Reef boats damaged by whacko boater

Doesn't limiting the liability only work on commercial vessels and the passengers/crew on them? If you damage someone else's property or hurt people outside of the vessel you can't limit the liability.

Freediver dies providing safety - Blue Hole Arch, Egypt

Scuba divers have been used as safety divers for the last 20 years. I have been one in a number of record attempts. You don't ascend with the victim, you attach a lift bag and send him up or you attach him to the main line and bang on it to signal that they should start the recovery device. Any...
