Is a weight belt worn under a BP/W really "ditchable"?

The amount of people who carry a dsmb, 2 computers, 3 cutting devices, 4 torches and 5 mike nelson shark replant sprays duct taped around their heads but keep all their weights un-dichable on a rec dive are baffling to me. The chance that you will have to ditch weights is slim to none, just...

Any reason I can't glue pockets to my wetsuit?

None at all, I recommend sewing them as well.

    D6i Replacement Strap

The silicone ones have a 5 year lifespan at best, they get brittle after that.

Stiffening a butt-pouch to assist clipping on a harness

A sprigy wire trough the top. It would keep the pouch straight but would also have some give when storing wide spools or needing to bend it inward to clip on.

    This morning in Egypt ...

It's a third world country with a huge tourism industry that gets larger and larger every year but their work force is emigrating to Eu as much as possible. There are a ton of shortcuts taken with the quality of the construction, safety and crew training.

Russian citizen mauled to death by tiger shark off Egypt's Red Sea coast in rare attack

Is it really rare if it happens multiple times a year in the same area? The sharks are protected and there is more of them than ever, meanwhile their natural food source is overfished.

Discussion of best practices for advancing in cave diving (moved from A&I JB thread)

A person has to get experience somehow, we all were unprepared for a dive before we actually did it for the first time. That said, and this is just a opinion that may be invalid, the proliferation of rebreathers has created a lot of woefully inadequate divers. A person with 20 hours on a unit...

What to use to cut small ropes?

I absolutely adore my spyderco salt ladybug. It's small enough that it doesn't bother me when i keep it tucked in my wetsuit sleeve and will cut trough pretty much anything. When diving in a dry suit I just attach it with a bolt snap to my short spool, it's in the pocket anyway and it makes it...

Why are Mods anonymous and wont answer questions?

I just find it funny that mods are answering questions in a thread about them not answering questions.

    What is "Gold Line"?

Assumptions in this case made a ass out of only me. Last time I saw the colour codded lines was in Molnar Janos, after that I used them at work sites that were flat and mucky and just assumed that you guys in Florida do the same thing.

    What is "Gold Line"?

We do it here when we do multiple lines and/or exits a red, blue, whatever colour cookie and arrow for that line. Our actual lines are all white.

    What is "Gold Line"?

In most popular caves there are permanent lines installed. They color code the cookies on them so you know what line you are on and can plan your dive accordingly.

Sea urchin die off and algae overgrowth

Sean urchins have almost disappeared here in Italy, and are now considered an endangered species. And in the Croatian side of the Adriatic there has been a decline in population over the last 5 years, while the ministry opened the fishery completely due to the huge demand in Italy. Now there...

    UTD's New Sidemount Configuration

I think you mean that sect of Judaism that takes not working on the Sabbath so serious they invent machines to flick light switches and start stoves for them.

    UTD's New Sidemount Configuration

At minute 3 he advocates for this as a DIR way of diving a single tank sidemount rig. You know, so you can isolate your only tank from your second stage, in case you suddenly decide to take up freediving I guess.

    1/4 Turn Revisited

I know it does nothing, but the muscle memory for me is strong enough that I find all my valves cracked 1/4 turn back. The only time I open the valve and leave it fully opened is when I'm demonstrating how to properly open the valve.

Why would charters block people from using any GPS

So you know the effort and money involved with finding new stuff underwater. It's fine if you share your own work, but why would you go and intentionally devalue someone else's?

Why would charters block people from using any GPS

How many days have you spent digging trough archives and driving grid patterns over nothing?

Why would charters block people from using any GPS

I lost a good chunk of income because a dive charter took guests to a wreck I gave them and let them keep their phones, now the wreck is overfished to the point that I'm not even bothering to go there.
