Communicating Underwater - Aquatec Sub Alert

You can but you have to have your mouth next to your buddies ear and speak loudly, slowly and clearly. Other wise its almost impossible.

Unfortunately in my previous post this incident was, the said diver died and the instructor arrested by the thai cops.

    Solo = Technical Diving Specialty

Deep solo, deco dives with wreck penetration certainly do not maketh a technical diver. 'Technical' diving is far from being a meaningless term, though from what I can see from yourself as an experienced divers point of view who has undoutably touched on the fringes of what could be considered...

Why does solo have a big future?

Its good to see that solo diving has gone from the mainstream in the early years of rec. diving to the shadows in the 80s and 90s back into the mainstream (to an extent). I'm not that well up on the current PADI stance but is it now so that a solo diving certification is available through PADI...

    the suunto D9

The Suunto computers are a strange beast good at what they do but no quite fitting into the Dive Computer niche nor Dive Watch, they are more of a curious hybrid of the two. But their two major limitations are the ridiculous non-user changable battery and the fact that the displays are too...

Communicating Underwater - Aquatec Sub Alert

All this jazz about u/w communication devices. They are useful and invaluable for certain branches of the diving community like scientific/research, military, and commercial. But for recreational I'm not so sure it's a going to be a hit. The expense is one thing, though prices do inevietably...

This Magic Moment by Jennifer Anderson

This is the second time I've read it (first time was in another diving forum) and it is poignant, some say its fictitious some say not.

SMB - Sausage usage, am I correct?

Deploying a DSMB/liftbag/safety sausage is tricky the first few times but its good skill development to keep and mantain boyancy at neutral and practice it. In the water whether your on a complicated Technical dive or a separated diver from the group its always wise to carry one. Left hand...

    Fun safety stop

Yeah and I hear you wrecker when you say that, BUT with the line 'I think its standard practice in the resort diving community to go back alone when cold etc' does not exactly bring forth images of well-being, responsibility of the dive professional and following a diving plan does it? I...

    glass bottom boats??????

I hate those boat captains who do that, Was on Koh Tao once when the thai captain thought it would be a good idea to pilot the dive boat over the dive site at full speed. A diver separated from his buddy whilst trying to clear his ears and ended up going into a runaway ascent. Poor guy had his...

    Diving Lores rolled into town

Yo folks, hows it going, this isn't my first post but I figure its manners to drop a line about myself and what my deal is here. I work in Hazardous Materials Ops but when I can get the hell away from it I normally get diving somewhere. Cert Level is DSAT Tech Deep and PADI DM/DSD Leader...

    Fun safety stop

Standard practice! I think perhaps not, while I know diving has some grey areas especially concerning what the right thing for a DM to do is in some situations, letting divers wander off alone back to the dive boat, mooring line etc if they suffering from cold, tired air is a definate no-no...

    Securing a cylinder

Heh, that reminds me of a story of this total jackass who decided to take apart a dive cylinder without first letting air out. It was like "Gee this valves damned hard to turn" :i1_2: WHACK! WHACK! WHACK with the hammer. Then WHOOSH KAHBLAST the damn valve head whizzed at warp 9 about the...

A bunch of words on dive computers

I think one of the bottom lines is that a computer no matter how good it is should always be considered fallible and therefore a back-up be it another dive computer, dive slate with deco. info etc should always be considered.
