depends on the agency.
you need 5+ dives to certify as OW with BSAC.
you need at least another 20 before you are allowed to start the Sports Diver with BSAC. There's nothing in between.
I had over 50 dives as an OW before I started my SD training.
That was good timing for me.
By dive 50 I...
<note to self> when next going shorediving check out other divers and where they hide their car keys! could make some serious money.
come on guys - are you serious?! you hide your keys in or on your car? you would NEVER get any refund on insurance if someone stole your car. you might as well...
Damn right. If you land on top of me when you're descending, kick the **** out of the coral, rip the reg out of my mouth by your manouevering ability (or lack thereof), do the same to my mask, and bounce all over the depths then I reserve the right to call you an inexperienced or crap diver...
In Borneo this last week, in 28degC water, wearing a full body 3mm wetsuit I was COLD!!! I might buy a 1mm neoprene suit to wear inside next time around.
lol - imagining the black & white wetsuits.
sorry - probably a cultural thing (I'm originally from the UK) - by "grumpy (right spelling this time) cows" I mean someone who looks like they have had their face slapped with a dirty wet dive towel - you know the type - never smiles after a dive...
update - this has become a moot point for me. I have found I cannot get pregnant 'naturally' so I will not be diving whilst trying 'artificially'.
Thanks for all the posts, comments and viewpoints.
I wear thin dive socks inside my booties to help with this - I couldnt find perfect fitting boots, was always getting blisters, until recommended socks by LDS female assistant. Best purchase I ever made.
Hi there
Just got back from a weeks diving in warm water at a resort where I saw all sorts of bodyshapes.
A few observations:
1) women with curves look sexier in wetsuits (IMHO) than women without curves
2) those with badly fitting wetsuits that struggled in and out of them looked foolish...
If you can try it on in the water you are very lucky.
None of the dive stores in Singapore or KL would let me "borrow" one to try in the water!
I have the Diva so I cant be of much help - sorry.
interesting - I too carry 5-6kg (10-12lbs) and am certainly not overweighted at the end of a dive.
I have a semi-wing BCD (Diva LX).
I put 2 kg non dumpable in the pockets next to the tank, and carry 3-4kg in my front pockets in the integrated weight pockets.
So they are in front of me.
I wonder...
Jacob - it doesnt really matter if you go to an optician's (as long as they are a qualified opthalmologist (sp?) - eye doctor) or an ENT doctor.
Both will be able to spot what & where the problem is and if necessary refer you to the other one. The important thing is to go there straight away -...
wapyaly - me too - 34A - but it sounds like you should have tried the M size at the very least.....remember the weight pockets should be around your hip bone, which means the waist strap is lower than you would normally velcro a strap across your belly.
if you cant swap to an M, try practicing...
You asked for my thoughts, you are going to get my thoughts.
1) Water is meant to seep into wet suits. That's why they are called "wet" suits.
2) I know you were pushing to get qualified, but part of learning to dive is learning when not to dive. You need to work on this attitude - you should...
zboss - can you not ask to just bring the stuff with you in case someone steals it? if you ask this explicitly and they say no, then say that you will hold them responsible if anything goes missing. normally they then let you take it with you.
as a thin(ish) woman I feel the cold.
I used to dive in skin/lycra suits in the tropics. Now as my fat percentage has decreased (through increased scuba diving) I wear a full-body 3mm wetsuit in any water under 29degC.
Darn it - I get cold!
