Trip Report: Surin & Similan Islands Liveaboard, January 2019

@diveUAE Batu Sahaung is a 10min boat ride from Blue Bay Divers resort on Sahaung island. They consider it to be their house reef. There is also a nice shore dive from the beach in front of the resort but it's more of a muck site and is mostly used as a checkout dive for new guests and night...

I started a thread about inertia in diving but it didn’t seem to gain any momentum.

    Northernone - aka Cameron Donaldson

Ditto. I've read many of his posts and have had a few interactions with him here on SB. He has always come across as a true gent; wise and kind. I was actually surprised how young he is. I felt compelled to donate to the cause and have also been very impressed with the outpouring of care and...

Scuba in Britain & the weather

Haha, I love this! :) I think it was possibly a fortuitous accident. I'm guessing the diving around Plymouth is better than Portsmouth, both in relation to visibility and points of interest.

Scuba in Britain & the weather

This is the thing. From SE England it can almost be quicker and possibly cheaper to go south to the Med or Canary Islands than to get down to Devon / Cornwall or up to Scotland for example. And you're pretty much guaranteed good diving conditions. However, as mentioned on a previous post we...

Beautiful photos and great report. We also had a wonderful stay at LDR a couple years ago - we’ll be returning!

Scuba in Britain & the weather

Yes, it can be frustrating planning a dive, even locally (apart from a lake dive, I haven't yet dived outside of the Brighton area). I've had several planned days out cancelled last minute due to a change in conditions. As I'm mainly a holiday diver and not a member of a club it can be difficult...

Search and Rescue - Scubaboard Staff Member - Northernone - Missing in Cozumel

I'm so shocked & upset to hear this news! Whilst I don't know Cameron personally, I've read many of his posts and have had several interactions with him on this board. He's always come across as very kind and gentle and happy to offer advice. My thoughts go out to him and his family. Let's...

Yes, good win for Wolves :). The Seagulls managed to squeeze through today and next have to take on the other half of Manchester.

Scuba in Britain & the weather

In general I would say you are more likely to have better, more stable weather in Sept than Oct, but it goes without saying that nothing is guaranteed. I always consider Sept to still be the tail end of summer, whereas Oct can be nice but it is definitely starting to feel much much like Autumn...

    Madeira island diving

Hi again @Sbiriguda I haven't dived in Madeira but we stayed on nearby Porto Santo in Oct 2017. It was a short family holiday so I only did 1 days diving (2 dives). Of the two sites, the highlight was definitely the Madeirense wreck, which I believe is considered by most to be the best dive in...

    Canary Islands

Yes. Unfortunately mine had expired and I forgot to renew before the trip. So make sure yours/ your friends is on date! Mind you, I could only find private centres close to my accomodation near Playa Chica, Lanzarote so didn't have choice as it would've cost me money & time to get to a hospital...

    Canary Islands

I think so, but my only experiences in that regard have been when I got a perforated eardrum last year on Lanzarote (from being unaware one nostril was congested I think) and when I got some glass in my hand in Tenerife back in 1997. In both cases I was able to get medical attention straight...

    wetsuit thickness?

Don't forget the OP is not planning a liveaboard out of Khao Lak, he'll be diving day boats out of Phuket. stevenl has already confirmed the water is warming up in that area (currently 29c I believe), where they are not as exposed to ocean currents.
