    Anti-fog solution

Yes, baby shampoo works. Any brand will do. I have had a tiny bottle of Johnson's baby shampoo that I bought in Thailand in 2014 and keep in my mask box. You just need a small drop neat on the lens, enough to provide a film over the entire surface. It's worth doing outside too. Just rub it with...

Starting to buy your own dive equipment

That's true. I think the video overviews do help to make a slightly more informed decision on products though, along with the customer reviews, as well as reviews from other sites. And it's always worth picking up the phone - most shops are very helpful, especially if the staff actually dive...

Starting to buy your own dive equipment

Hi Micheal, There are several sites worth checking but I always look at Mike's dive store & Simply Scuba websites initially. Simply Scuba have video reviews for many items and usually have reviews from customers, which help! I also like Aquanauts in Plymouth; they're always very helpful on the...

    Planning an affordable diving holiday

Excellent! Big congratulations to your daughter!! Especially this time of year, it must've been very cold! I hope you have a great trip and all goes well with the shark and night dive quest. I guess there's an outside chance of dolphins too. Dolphins are also on my wish list, but no luck so...

When are you heading there and which beach are you staying at? I'd love to hear some feedback from you after your trip. We'll be there in August, first staying at Tanote Bay in the east for a few days, then switching to Sai Daeng beach in the south for a change of scenery. We're hoping we can...

Prince Charles Will Participate in UW Event on Little Cayman 03/28/19

Many people in the UK don’t want a royal family but most do I believe. I think people generally have a lot affection and respect the Queen. However, many royals are not so popular and we would not miss them to be honest. Personally I’m somewhat conflicted about it, I get the reasons for getting...

    Planning an affordable diving holiday

Not a lot of shore diving on the Andaman side, and boat trips are mostly full days out. If you want amazing beaches and close by diving Koh Lipe may be worth checking out. The boat ride to the island can get very bumpy in monsoon season though :vomit:... also, the diving is better further north...

    Krabi, Koh Tao or Phuket?

How about Songkran!? I believe that's mid April... probably the busiest time of year for Thai celebrations / holidays. Something else for OP to bear in mind.

Here’s link to Bubbles resort, Perhentians that I mentioned in my first response: The Resort They also do conservation work. The beach is used by turtles to lay eggs. Staff at the centre protect the eggs from poachers until the hatchlings pop out. On our first night there we saw a turtle laying...

    Planning an affordable diving holiday

Ok, well that’ll certainly provide more flexibility in terms of suitable locations and should make flights and possibly accommodation cheaper if you go outside the school holiday times! If you do head to SE Asia then bear in mind the monsoon season. The better diving in Thailand, for example, is...

    Planning an affordable diving holiday

Hi Graham, Firstly, welcome to ScubaBoard! Without knowing your budget it's going to be tricky to answer your questions fully but you've said you're considering Koh Tao so I guess you have a reasonable amount to spend. Also, I'm guessing you'll need to go in the school holidays, so August...

Scuba in Britain & the weather

Was that due to wind/waves or fast currents, or both? What time of year was that? We’re heading to Marsa Allam for a land-based holiday in 3 weeks and I’m hoping to dive Elphinstone. Apart from air & sea temperature and marine life you’re likely to see, I couldn’t quite figure out whether...

Trip Report: Surin & Similan Islands Liveaboard, January 2019

One thing to add about August is that it does seem to get a bit blowy in the afternoons. At Blue Bay they generally do two morning dives but tend not to stray too far for the afternoon dive as the wind and waves get up. Not really a problem though as there are some nice nearby reasonably...
