Watch this video of the Blue Hole of Dahab before it is deleted

There are certainly a lot of questions to be raised, and have been raised in relation to this video. I dived in Dahab in 2012 and would not say this is representative of the dive industry in that area. We did our AOW and our instructor was nothing but professional throughout. As I said...

Koh Tao Diving Quality (for example vs Anilao or PG)

Yep, I'd agree with this. Thailand is hard to beat for nice beaches, good food and some relaxed diving; Tanote Bay was great for us with two young kids. The bay is safe for kids to swim and my 6 year got to see baby black tipped reef sharks (I think this was his favourite thing... ever!), titan...

Koh Tao Diving Quality (for example vs Anilao or PG)

We were on Koh Tao in August and stayed on the east side of the island on Tanote Bay. We dived with Calypso who were excellent. They are laid back but very professional and do not like diving with the crowds and know how to avoid them, so there were no crowds on the sites we dived on the eastern...

    Marsa Alam in February?

We were there in April and the water temp was 22-23C. A 5mm wetsuit plus Lavacore vest worked for me. The pool (also 22-23C) & sea water were ok but a bit cooler than ideal for swimming & snorkelling. If we go again I think we'd go no earlier than May, but with kids (taking school holidays into...

Durability & worthwhileness of Aquaflex vs. SP everflex/sport vs. Bare

Btw, my wife has the FE Xenos 3mm shorty and she also really likes hers.

Durability & worthwhileness of Aquaflex vs. SP everflex/sport vs. Bare

As a potential alternative, is Fourth Element gear available anywhere in your neck of the woods. I have a FE Xenos 5mm which is a great fit for me (and the size chart is spot on), the neoprene is very stretchy and the it's pretty easy to get on & off. They have a very good reputation as a brand...

Underwater white balance - got an idea

...you can possibly get white / grey neoprene gloves too, although I haven't specifically looked.

Underwater white balance - got an idea

How about a pair of these (or just one, if you like the Michael Jackson look)? Showa 370 Assembly Grip Gloves - SafetyGloves.co.uk They add a little thermal protection and can protect your hands on descent/ascent lines and if you need to hold on to a rock or something... I have some I use for...

Underwater white balance - got an idea

I use either the palm of my hand, my white fins or a patch of sand. All work well with my Canon G7Xii. I shoot photos in RAW so no big deal if colour is off, but but manually setting WB is essential for video. Video light / strobe for close up video / macro shots.

    good fins for wetsuit diving

by the way, you’re probably aware but water temperature in the Red Sea in May is usually around 23-25c so you may find a 3mm wetsuit not enough on its own? We were in Marsa Alam in April this year with temps of 22-23c and my 5mm was ok but I added a lavacore vest & hood after the 1st dives of...

    good fins for wetsuit diving

I used to have Mares Avanti Quattro plus, but switched to Apeks RK3 fins. I liked the Quattro's but, for me, the RK3s just feel much nicer on, like they're an extension of my feet. Being shorter I've found them easier to pack and easier to manoeuvre on a boat before a dive. I find the spring...

GoPro 7 Black Or a case for my Canon G9x II?

Me too :) I enjoy taking photos and doing some post-processing to get the best out of the image. But I mainly love editting videos and putting suitable music to them. Luckily my to little boys love watching them and they're already great at fish ID!

GoPro 7 Black Or a case for my Canon G9x II?

For video, I've had some excellent results using ambient light with my G7x II (with its large 1” sensor, same as the G9x II), but you have got to adjust the white balance on a regular basis - quite simple once you get used to doing it. If you’re not on top of WB it’s very difficult to recover...

GoPro 7 Black Or a case for my Canon G9x II?

Just to add that its not necessary to have lights for the Canon, particularly for wide angle. You'll be able to get good results from ambient light. For macro you'll need lights to get the most out of the camera, although you can use the built-in flash as long as you can accept it's...

GoPro 7 Black Or a case for my Canon G9x II?

I'm not sure if you can shoot RAW with a GoPro 7, but you can with the Canon, which is a massive bonus as you can adjust the white balance in your editing software post-dive to recover the colours back to how they should be if you need to (which, as I'm sure you're aware, is a major issue in UW...

    Where would you live?

I love SE Asia but the mozzies are a nightmare! If you haven't already found an effective treatment, so far I've found Anthisan cream to be the most effective at stopping the itching. DEET is evil so I use an anti-mozzie spray made from natural ingredients called Incognito. It works well, as...

    Where would you live?

This is a good point. And although in many parts of SE Asia, particularly in the more populated areas, diseases like malaria are no longer an issue, they still have damn mozzies...and lots of them in some cases. I'm not sure how I'd cope living there, their bites drive me mad if I haven't...
