Good holiday destination for beginner diver and kids

From your location in Australia I would look at Bali! Check out Amed - good for snorkeling and shore diving apparently. We were supposed to be heading that way then Covid happened. Haven't been to Amed but we visited Tulamben and Candidasa a few years back. Great diving but not ideal for beach/...

Looking into buying my first bcd (EU)

I own an XDeep Ghost, which is excellent for travel. I mainly dive warm with 3mm shorty or board shorts and rash vest, but I've used it with a full length 5mm in the red sea, with 10kg lead (12L alu tank). The wing has plenty of lift and feels streamlined in use. The v-shaped crotch strap is...

Shocking sighting in front of Hotel Cozumel

Was it a hair raising experience? I'm positive many find these puns amusing but I reFUSE to get drawn in, so I'll stay neutral.

    Fin recommendations

I currently own RK3s & love them for warm water. Nice and short and comfortable. They just feel good on my feet and good for different types of kicking. Could argue they're a little floppy but they're fine for me and pretty light for travel. The HD version is stiffer but heavier and negative. I...

    Extra-Wide Boots?

+1 for Scubapro Delta 5. I struggle with my wide feet and cramps can be an issue but no probs with the Delta's.

What's the sign for "that's cool - thanks"

If I want to thank someone I simply put my hands together, palms touching, around chin height. Like the Thai 'wai' gesture.

What's the sign for "that's cool - thanks"

Shaka or ok sign - double handed if they're both free. If it's something super cool then this is how I feel :yeahbaby:, but I haven't tried it with my reg in my mouth!

    BP/W or BCD

I also have an XDeep Ghost deluxe version and it works well for me too. You can also get integrated weight pockets for it. I have the medium size pockets (max 3kg) which is sufficient for me (mostly holiday diving in warm water), although I've managed to get 4kg in each, with 2kg trim weight on...

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

We've got a hotel package for Marsa Alam this coming October with TUI. As far as the TUI are concerned it's still going ahead. We've paid the deposit but have to wait to see what the govt guidance is by then. Thankfully we will (should) get our money back if it's cancelled. If we cancel the trip...

    Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago

Hi and welcome :) We have a trip booked to Tobago for August. Just hoping we can actually make it out there, but unfortunately I'm kinda expecting it to be cancelled given the current situation! Fingers crossed things are much better by then!! Cheers, Rob

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

We have a trip to Marsa Alam booked for October. Im also not so sure the situation will have improved sufficiently enough to feel comfortable traveling to Egypt, even if flights have resumed by then. I'm guessing flights from/to UK will have resumed by then but I'm not convinced Egypt will be on...

    Elphinstone - Dive Certification

Btw, I read the prerequisite for Elphinstone quoted above as AOW (or equivalent) + 50 dives OR OW (or equivalent) + Deep Speciality + 50 dives.

    Elphinstone - Dive Certification

Choose a different dive centre for Elphinstone if they won't take you, but I do suspect you'll be fine with AOW and have min 50 dives and/or can show you're proficient divers that will be able to handle yourselves at that site. Don't worry :)

    Elphinstone - Dive Certification

As David Novo has suggested, it appears to me there may be some confusion between Deep Speciality and Deep Adventure Dive, that latter of which would be included as a prerequisite for AOW. Possibly lost in translation?? Im guessing you've been in touch with Coraya Divers? I was in Coraya Bay...

    good value travel reg recommendations

My wife likes her Apeks Flight set. The 1st stage and 2nd /octo are very compact & lightweight and there are 2 HP ports. The exhaust ports are wide so no bubble interference. Comes with comfo bite mouthpiece & flexi hoses. It needs special tools to service them but not a problem if you have an...
