Four die while exploring underwater cave

Sounds like they were attempting to reach another cave by swimming. Not diving. Sad stuff. Anyone have any idea what happened?

    So, the other day...

i read something about that reserve thing being easy to screw up during filling. Instead of having 500 reserve, you had 500 total or something like that...... and to think, you didn't know how "unsafe" it was ;)

Is there a safe dive for children?

I find it odd that PADI (who i think still frowns on solo diving) would suggest an adult and 10 year old be buddies. If you are buddying up with a 10 year old, you'd best consider it a solo dive (from the aspect of you running into any trouble). A 10 year old will be useless to you if you...

Repetitive Nitrox Dives and O2 Clock

The 24 hour thing might also have to do with PULMONARY O2 tox. (the irritation of the lungs type) The half life of oxygen might keep you from CNS ox tox but the lungs might not respond well to repeated exposure to high levels of oxygen. Also remember the 24 hour thing is a rolling limit...

    A stupid, stupid question….

Say it with me.... personal preference. When you drop your light, it will most likely be WHEN ITS ON. Otherwise it should be attached to you. Yellow does have advantages should you drop it some other time, but i would think that would be unlikely.

    Should I get new computer

I think it deoends. Do you plan on increasing your dive frequency? Because if you're going to continue at 1 -2 dives a year, i'd say skip it. You may be able to rent a nitrox compatible comp, one of your dive buddies may have one, or you can use the nitrox tables. If you're going to...

    The Last Dive (book)

Its written from a different point of view. The Last Dive wasn't REALLY about the identification of the 869. It was about the Rouses, with the 869 and Chowderbury's dances with DCI thrown in for good measure....A great book. Shadow Divers is about the 869 and its history and...

    The Last Dive (book)

I had forgotten those two.... The hollywood factor is what scares me. Give hollywood their say on it and they'll give Chatterton and Kohler M-16s and have them fight off a group of nazis that are trying to recover the sub

    The Last Dive (book)

Lets hope they do better with making shadow divers into a movie than they have with every stephen king book (exception of the Green Mile) Always seems the movies are a bit of a letdown....

    Bad LDS Experience-South FL

Just for reference. I just picked up my backup regs.....And one of them had exploded when the LDS hooked it up to an air source....g*dd*mn ebay..... and LABOR + PARTS was $75. And I live in a state that prides itself in charging you more than things are worth

    The Last Dive (book)

If you like the story, but want to see it from a different POV (more about the u-869 and its identification than about the Rouses (although there is a chapter on them)) try "Shadow Divers". Its written better (IMHO). But you are correct. The Last Dive is a good read

    Independent Self Starter

Remember you have a buddy. I got a bit target fixated on something, in low viz, with my buddy of lesser experience trailing me. He had a tank slip and i never noticed. Turned around and i was alone. As was he. Luckily we were shallow...i surfaced safely and found his bubbles...

    Air in tank marked Nitrox?

"They convey no useful information other than "hey look, my tank is special"" And that, in itself, IS their purpose. If you see a tank with at big NITROX sticker on it, you don't use it until you know whats in it. A BOW diver won't know how to analyze it, but i would hope he'd know better...

    Air in tank marked Nitrox?

Ok. You're on a dive boat. Are you suggesting that a diver, ANY DIVER, grab a bottle marked NITROX and head over the side, no analysis, no idea whats in the thing? I don't know how things are done across the pond, but if i rented a tank of air and got one marked NITROX, I'd have some...

And thats why an air diver should not be using a tank marked nitrox.

    Air in tank marked Nitrox?

It will tell you if you've got what you think you do. If i grab a bottle marked NITROX (why you wouldn't analyze it anyway, im not sure. EAN25 is a bit different than EAN40) and the O2 analyzer comes back at 100 or 21 then its probably not what i thought it was. CO levels are a...

    Air in tank marked Nitrox?

Case in point. Guy around here grabbed a tank and headed over (it had NO markings on it)... and flatlined on the bottom. His buddies got him out of the water and he lived...but he had himself a big ole bottle of argon (or argonox...not real sure about this one)
