How much experience to dive w/out others...

Your dive certification is designed so that you may dive with a buddy and in theory not need anyone else. Of course if you're diving in a new area, new conditions, haven't been down in awhile, etc its a good idea to have a group or a DM with you, but BOW doesn't have as one of its limitations...

    Almost given up.....

Think back to your dive. Why are you having problems? If its a "Oh no, now i'm diving 'for real' or a 'the stuff counts now' "thing, then realize if you can do it in a pool, you can do it in the open water. If you're afraid that your instructor is grading you more closely now ,don't worry...

    rip tides

From my understanding a "rip tide" is caused by a sandbar (usually) with a break in it. The water trying to get back out to sea encounters this and is forced to run parallel to shore to the break in the bar where it rushes back out. This can be quite fast. The problem arises when a swimmer...

    Nitrox Certification?

That is correct. That's why at 100ft a mix that is unbreathable shallower can be used 5% 02 times approx 4 gives you a 20% po2 (almost normoxic)

In need of some positive reinforcement!

(for those of you who are wondering check the thread here http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=110035&page=2&pp=10 scroll down about 3/4 down) sounds like you're doing a fair bit of regurgitating yourself. And you still haven't answered to the fellow who had an instructor take off on...

How about this?? Nitrox c-card without a single checkout dive

Geks you might want to duck ;) Nauidiver2004, now that i've read your profile, you claim to be nitrox certified, through naui no less (huge suprise). NAUI requires dives for nitrox (if i remember correctly) Why don't you share with the group what you feel you gained by having to dive for...

How about this?? Nitrox c-card without a single checkout dive

Well its nice to see i've caught your eye. Since you've been following me around from thread to thread posting but adding nothing. I don't have a problem with his question. I obviously had the same one. I have a problem with the attitude behind it. "I find this unbelievable (although i...

How about this?? Nitrox c-card without a single checkout dive

Again WHAT IN WATER SKILLS DO YOU EXPECT A REC NITROX CLASS TO TEACH YOU Heliox and trimix arguments are moot. 1>You ready to do a gas shutdown and switch? Want to get in the water without an instructor for that? 2>Are your buoyancy skills up to par enough to pull off an advanced deco...

In need of some positive reinforcement!

Just a word of caution (and mostly because i didn't understand it when i read it and did a lot of thinking about it). "Goal" oriented dives can be a problem, if you let the pursuit of that goal push you into a situation you aren't equipped to deal with. The way the thing i read put it was...

Question...kinda urgent (not a medical issue)

Yeah... i can see the headlines now...."Authorities are baffled as diver entangles himself while trying to replace hose and suffocates" I've got 10 thumbs when it comes to this stuff (although its more from worry and lack of knowledge than lack of aptitude ) Thanks for the...

Question...kinda urgent (not a medical issue)

I had planned on deep/pyle stops. The only time my computer hasn't screamed "SLOW" at me was when i did them... But....its confirmed. I have bubbles (small ones but constant and fast) coming out of my SPG hose up near the first stage. Plus a slow leak around the tank o-ring. dammit...

In need of some positive reinforcement!

It may take a while.....but soon you'll look at your spg and automatically check over your shoulder (if your instructor/buddy insists on trailing you) You get the hang of it. Good luck....I'm gonna try to get AOW in before the end of the season.....travel schedules permitting

Question...kinda urgent (not a medical issue)

i appreciate all the info....Obviously people get bent diving the NDLs but I think i'll be fine....if i go....i may have a leak around my first stage :( Checking pressure a few minutes ago and heard a hiss that didn't stop once the hoses were charged.... filling up the tub now *crosses fingers*

In need of some positive reinforcement!

Not an instruction dive, but.... it happens to all of us. Picture this..... vis of maybe 4 feet. Dive team of 4 loosely formed (basically 2 buddy teams) my buddy and i lost the other two so were staying together and swimming in the heading they were last headed. I was the more experienced...

How about this?? Nitrox c-card without a single checkout dive

Why's that? SSI and TDI at least don't require "checkout dives". Can you dive on air? What in water skills do you expect a rec nitrox course to teach you?

Question...kinda urgent (not a medical issue)

Excellent. Thanks. 24 seemed like alot (especially with a blanket statement) 7.5 seemed almost like asking to get bent... ;)

    rain-x as a mask defog

not sure it would work to well for a few reasons. 1>That appley smell would get on your nerves 2>it might make you eyes water 3>it might cause deterioration of the mask 4>it works on RAIN. I've been in light mist where it did nothing. If the water droplets don't get big enough they just...

    Nitrox Certification?

Pyle stops....Richard Pyle. Good article and it makes a lot of sense. You're reducing the pressure gradient (130 to 15 feet is a much greater gradient than 130 to 70 to 35 to 15) Makes a lot of sense. Erics point is if you dive to the limits you dive to the limits. Will there be more...
