Sorry bout that. I read it wrong. Thought you meant exhaling as little air as possible. My eyes must be going ;)

You would think. How long have you been diving with this AIR2 setup? You forgot about it. and it was probably in your hand. You might well have forgotten about the Pony reg too. http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=107491&highlight=octo+necklace but you'll have to get an octo More...

    almost died

Good point. A pony, depending on how its carried, is potentially something else to get a line tangled on. I would say you should get one and practice with it in situations where you're not likely to get killed, but it likely would't have helped this time around. Not sure a necklace would...

    almost died

ok. Solo diving when properly equipped is not a bad thing. Sounds to me like you might have bolted even in the presence of a buddy. Why were you soloing without a redundant air source? Why did you not deploy your OCTO???? And as for DCS, I'd be more worried about damaging your lungs...

Ah. I see you have the same dive planning i do. I'm about 100 miles away, looking for a little deeper water. Might try to hop down there tomorrow...

    To nitrox or not

I had this thought last night while trying to fall asleep. Even if you're a hoover, there is a NITROX benefit. Shorter surface intervals. :D

What Nitrox Calculations do you use?

As i'm sure you are aware (and as the courses are now teaching), diving nitrox on air tables (provided you manually track oxygen loading) reduces the risk of DCI. That's what the books are calling the 3rd benefit of nitrox diving. But it does restrict the NDLs.

What Nitrox Calculations do you use?

That depends on what you're doing. I was going to dive the U-352 (115-120 ft) 2 weeks ago (visibility blew that one out :( ) and EAN32 would have put me over the 1.4 PO2 Luckily, the shop banked 30 which was perfect....if only the sea had cooperated. The others diving with me aren't Nitrox...

Use of O2 clean tanks in remote areas...

I stand corrected. I wondered why the term "Grade E" wasn't used in my nitrox course ;)

What Nitrox Calculations do you use?

I get the impression he is in class and thinks he needs to memorize the formulas. But it really isn't clear

What Nitrox Calculations do you use?

For what? MOD, EAD, PO2? The easiest thing to remember is to bring your tables or your computer ;) That said, If you look at the various formulas, and try to understand why they are what they are (rather than just accepting it) you'll have better luck remembering them. the 33 that shows...

Use of O2 clean tanks in remote areas...

Recreational NITROX is a blend from 21 to 40 % O2. As long as you are using "banked" nitrox below 40% there is minimal fire hazards associated with your tanks and regs (most now advertise "ready for nitrox up to EAN40 right out of the box". When either your tanks, valves or regs come into...

What kind of scuba training do you prefer?

In a safe environment, some "tricks" like shutting off your air, removing your mask, snatching a reg, without the student knowing its going to happen is a GOOD THING, as long as they have been taught how to handle it and have previous practice with it. If the only experience i have with an OOA...

    Nervousness

If NAV is the problem, you have a few choices. Take a navigation course. OR dive in clear water and stay within sight of the anchorline/boat. Something that might help is thinking about what would happen if you got lost and had to surface away from the boat. Presumably you'd be with a...

How much experience to dive w/out others...

We were planning a dive with a DM to the U-352 off the coast of NC last week. We chose to dive with a DM due to our depth and lack of knowledge of the wreck. We didn't get to dive because of viz at the site but we did do a quick DM brief. His way of handling it was if a diver ran out of air...

    Nervousness

Unless I've misinterpreted, it sounds like you don't like the water, much less diving. Its not for everyone. Its perfectly acceptable to go on a dive trip with a diver and NOT DIVE. Hang out on the shore, snorkel (my mom does that when my dad dives) As for being determined to get past...

What do you do in the Winter?

-Curse the cost of drysuits -Curse the New England Winters -Put the wetsuit on and wade in hoping that THIS year 37 degree water won't be as cold as it was last year -Promise myself, yet again, that come summer i'll be in much better shape than i was last summer
