    Help! Lost weight!

Not sure on this. Muscle is more dense than fat. But you probably lost a bit of both. Even if not, I can't imagine it being more than 2-3 pounds of bouyancy. Your biggest difference might be your wetsuit fit. If only i could go in that direction. I think i have the weight you lost. If...

    Compass or not

A compass can't hurt, unless it gets tangled in something. And if you ever find yourself in dark water, it can be vital. But as with everything, it depends on the type of diving you do. I did a shore dive in fairly clear water (10-15 ft viz) around here and when it was time to turn around...

What exactly is 200 bar rating on manifold?

I've got a "200 bar" manifold with yoke plugs. And most yoke regs have DIN conversion kits you can use if you want to go that way. My reg has 232 BAR printed on the first stage. But if you've used yours for an al80, you're ok with using it on a 200 bar manifold

    Average weight ammounts

40 for me. I dive a 7mm farmer john with a 6mm hood with an al80 in salt water. 30 seemed like a lot to me (coming from florida in springs, wearing much less) but my first dive up here, i had 30 lbs and couldn't get beneath the surface.

Breaking the "self-donning" rule, for fun and profit ;) HELP???

Drysuit afficienados (sp?) Lets say a certain solo diving, six-string playing, diver had the opportunity to buy a drysuit at a good price, but it was a rear entry (with the zipper across the shoulders). Is it possible for a fellow to don one of these on his own? Its a trilam. If it is...

Got 2 free tanks, are they useable?

this was long ago and in my "its still in his yard, i'll be honest about it and ask him how much he wants for it" days ;)

question on sea elite isolator manifold

Thanks guys. Modular means alot of things. It could mean "you can dive this with anything if you buy our ultra-rare expansion kit. Because its you, we'll let it go for 5 grand" ;) Thanks again!!

    Nitrox fill question

Check the PSI before you dive it next (for bleed-off). In HIGH O2 situations, i heard something about some tanks "absorbing" the oxygen out of those mixes. To be safe, take your tank into your LDS and have them put an O2 analyzer on it. (this should cost nothing or next to it). But i...

question on sea elite isolator manifold

I've got a sea elite 200 bar isolation manifold. It claims to be modular to "fit all my diving needs" and the distance between the posts can be adjusted to some extent. Is cylinder diameter going to be a factor with this manifold (ie, am i stuck with 7.25" or can i use 8.00")? I had planned...

    Safety Stop

Perhaps a little more decompression physiology ought to be taught earlier than it is. While i can see that some folks will take safety stops as mandatory and do them, I can just as easily see many people not understanding the importance and blowing them off.

    Safety Stop

30 fpm is hard to understand. My computers scream at me if i exceed that...and i do often unless i'm on a line. it seems VERY slow.

    Safety Stop

I don't think anyone is saying don't teach safety stops. I know I'm not. I think the bone of contension here is with calling them "mandatory". If a safety stop is mandatory, then really it isn't a safety stop. Its a deco stop. If, by the RDP, you can't safely ascend from depth within 3...

    Safety Stop

I don't buy it either. You've 'ingrained' in them to do a safety stop, but not to pay attention to their tables/computers? If sparky is going to blow off his AIR NDL because snuffy is on nitrox and gets to stay down longer, then he's just as likely to blow off his safety stop. If they don't...

    Cave Diving With Rebreathers?

Absolutely. I can't remember where it was, but somebody a long time ago (relatively), back in the Exley era (it may have been him) developed one especially for cave survey. Allowed him to stay underwater for something like 24 hours. I'll see if i can dig up the info on it (although its...

    Diving Doubles

At least around here, they'll allow you, at the instuctor's discretion, to combine Deco procedures with Adv nitrox. With the exception of a very few specialized and shallow dives, I'm not sure what you'd use Nitrox above 40% for if you weren't decompressing with it.

    Diving Doubles

I'm not sure, but I think you're going to have a problem finding a PADI (naui or SSI) course that teaches ANYONE deco. Their primarily rec diving. The TDI Deco Procedures course requires you be 18 or older.
