Looking for the Toughest, Best Zippered Dry Suit Available

Just a bit outside of the posted price range but I had a DUI CLX450 made to measure for me. Instead of the standard top and bottom made from different materials, I had the entire suit made out of CORDURA®, Butyl Rubber & Polyester. I have made recoveries in some rough places, but the suit still...

    Intro to Tech - Cost

The classes will be the least expensive aspect of tec. While 1k is a bit high, you need to compare the instructor and what you will be getting out of this more expensive class that others may not offer. If the more expensive class will provide a better instructor and/or more focus on required...

What Scubapro regulator is best for combating dry mouth?

Stick a Capri Sun in your pocket and use it if you need it. I tried a Pepsi once but that didn’t work so well. Don’t let the agencies get wind of this type of thing or I suppose they will make a class/cert for it. :rofl3:

    Advice on putting on gear

Give it a try sometime, it’s rather easy. Here is a video of someone showing others how to do it. He holds it in a low squat but I just pick it up and turn it over. Skip to 2:40 on the video

    Advice on putting on gear

That's how all of us put our gear on. I guess they don't teach that one these days and very few have actually seen it done. As long as you make sure the hoses will be routed correctly when you flip it over, you are good to go...

    Advice on putting on gear

Stand behind the tank/BC, put your hands through the arm pocket and grab the tank. Lift it up over your head and drop it on your back. If you don’t have an elevated place to set your gear on, dropping it over your head is the easiest way. Maybe that technique is a bit outdated for younger divers...

    Air integration for tech dives

I us AI and a SPG for redundancy. Not wanting to get into the argument of a "requirement" or a "need", it's just another tool that adds a layer of convenience. If I am going to look at a piece of gear for information (depth gauge, pressure gauge, bottom timer, compass...etc.) it's not...

    First Dive Computer

Dive computers provide convenience and while they are a great option, they are not required in order to complete a safe dive. I’m one of the older divers that came into diving when horse collars and J valves were considered high-tech. There were many problems with earlier dive computers and...

Search & Recovery question: Can side scan sonar penetrate silt?

Here is an example. Our unit was contacted by the local DA to assist in possibly locating a knife that was used three years prior in a local homicide. The DA recently received reliable information that one of the individuals involved in the killing came forward with details on where and how he...

Search & Recovery question: Can side scan sonar penetrate silt?

Most sonar used in routine recovery dives will show objects that are on the bottom but they won’t generally identify small objects that are buried under heavy silt/mud/sand. The limiting factor for most recovery operations is budget so the type of sonar used and the platform on which it’s...

    Diving watches

I have had two guys I dove with over the years lose their Rolex on a dive. One is sitting off of Imperial Beach CA. and the other is somewhere in Lake Poway, also in San Diego. My nice watches stay in the safe. I have not used a watch for diving in decades but I have several dive watches that I...

Which Aqaba diving center to choose?

The last time I dove there (2008) I made 10 dives with Red Sea Dive Center and had no complaints. If you do end up there, look up Abdullah M. Al-Momany, his father is the founder there and he went out of his way to help with our requests. Tell him the Navy guy that sent him the stuff from...

Closed Scubapro Jet Fins, XXL, yellow, excellent condition

Thanks for the info. I have not seen a Scubapro Jet with a hole in them at any local shop and Scubapro is local. I have seen them on the GO and Seawing but not a Jet. Some folks like to enter/exit surf with the fins clipped in upside down to make it easier. Looks like they will offer both versions.

Nice fins and good price. Aqua Lung Rocket II fins have holes on the blade tip, Scubapro Jets do not.

Altitude diving for a "knock-off" dive

Yes, the computer will automatically adjust. Maybe the person in question did not realize that the computer had this function. While the Perdix is set to run at sea level (1013 mBar), the computer will automatically adjust if the pressure drops below 965 mBar (Just over 1,000 feet in elevation)...

    Primary Hose Length

That video has a few issues. The seven-foot primary hose is not wrapped around your neck twice and the "safe second" as he calls is not there for the sole purpose of a situation where the dive buddy runs out of air. The biggest assumption in the video is that an OOA diver is going to follow a...

Altitude diving for a "knock-off" dive

Have him set his Perdix to auto mode and it will adjust to his current elevation. He should already know this by reading the manual. There are some other settings he may want to consider like fresh water versus salt. His computer won’t automatically turn on until he is about 10 feet below the...

    NorCal Freshwater Dive Sites

Many freshwater locations throughout CA no longer allow diving. While our dive unit was requested to dive in a number of these lakes to film intakes and perform required maintenance, public diving was not allowed. Call the appropriate authority and inquire as to whether the lake you would like...
