Capillary Depth Gauge - anachronism or reference...

Why, your computer already compensates for elevation. If not, get a better one.

Capillary Depth Gauge - anachronism or reference...

The first question is not really an issue with a quality contemporary computer. As an example, the Perdix is accurate to the nearest one foot of depth and is 100% reliable for accurate depth down to 435 feet. Granted, a computer can fail and while some carry an additional backup gauge, the trend...

Capillary Depth Gauge - anachronism or reference...

While I applaud your efforts, modern dive computers have become the standard and older style instruments are now viewed as obsolete. Most dive agencies no longer teach dive tables and teach new students to rely solely on a computer. The growing trend for wearing two computers during a dive is...

US Navy divers with Poseidon XStream

Not making the argument that military gear is not good. I just caution folks when they see it being used by .mil and think that the military selected the item because it was the best there is. Sometimes it’s good stuff and other times, there are better options.

US Navy divers with Poseidon XStream

I’ve dove with EOD and FBI units conducting dive ops and even performed mine sweeps for various ships in San Diego bay. Many of us wore BP/W setups. Even when I went through post-blast training with the FBI a BP/W was not an issue. I had an EOD Commander in my unit for a few years. They dove...

They use whatever finds its way into the inventory. Military is supplied by the lowest bidder offering the most equipment and support.

Missing diver in Monterey, CA area

I prefer to remain flat on the bottom and work my way in until I’m in 3-4 feet of water. Let that last wave wash over, pull the fins and stand up.

dual outlet valve on single tank

I bought them at a local dive shop back when they were available a long time ago. They pop up from time to time but they are sold the same day. They still have the euro version for sale overseas but they don’t fit US cylinders. They had the version I have and they also made a nitrox model. It...

    Wetnotes paper

The ones I use (Halcyon) are about 4”x6”. I used a permanent sharpie to write down possible deco profiles with helitrox/trimix if I ever had a dive that went outside of the plan. While I carry them out of habit, I wear two computers so wet notes, outside of just writing something during a dive...

    100 % O2 Cleaning for AL80

The cleaning process varies but this is basically how it goes. A dive shop will have a faster way of doing it and use diffrent equipment but at home you can get it done. I would argue that if it’s just the one cylinder, have a shop do it as it can be a lot to do at home for just one cylinder...

    Divebags, how have they changed?

I don’t do cattle boats; however, for shore dives, I use two large plastic tubs that I carry in the bed of my truck. All of my stuff, minus cylinders, fits in one tub. After the dive, I put all the wet items in the other tub and the dry stuff I did not use stays in the dry tub. I carry a small...

Can I dive without an octo?

Some do, especially if they run a necklace. Most OW classes teach to donate your secondary or teach the diver to reach for their buddies secondary if needed. If you are truly OOA, you wont think twice about it. It’s a bit different doing it in a pool when you only have one regulator between two...

    Back mount pony bottle

If you have 500 psi pushing one direction and 2,000 psi pushing in the opposite direction it should be rather apparent which way the air would flow until the pressure is equalized. You would have a bit more air in the 80 and almost empty pony.

Can I dive without an octo?

That was one of the fun parts of dive class back then, trying to pick a buddy for that drill that appeared to have better than average oral hygiene. I would argue that the skill not only went away with the common use of secondaries, growing medical concerns would also be an issue. Can you...

    Dive with isolator mostly closed?

    Dive with isolator mostly closed?

This is from way back… in 2018 https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/tank-valve-stuck-open.567912/ This is from DAN: “valves are now less prone to leaking or sticking open. While the quarter-turn-back practice is still present in other industries to prevent valve damage and ensure that...

    Dive with isolator mostly closed?

That’s how we were taught a long time ago on how to open a high pressure valve. The idea behind it is to reduce the possibility of the valve sticking in the open position after high-pressure air has entered the valve. I suppose most of us old farts do it this way.

    Dive with isolator mostly closed?

You need to decide what is best for you and what aligns with your overall safety plan. Some folks run them partially open while others run them wide open. Other don’t want to deal with extra possibilities so they use manifolds without an isolation valve. Personally, I run mine all the way open...

    Cold Water regulator standards

No need to search a website as I have no interest in the topic. I only responded to provide a viewpoint that military studies are not as reliable as they may appear. The information from your post is only as good as the date in which the test results were published, not the day you posted it...
