PADI DM requirement and PADI standards

I have no problem with doing any scenario. But stating 1000$ for a DM program and saying I need some "specialties" for another 1000$ before I can start the program sounds wrong after what I know about PADI system and this diving community. I have done my OW, my AOW, my rescue and EFR and to be...

Clueless Beginner on Open Heel Fins with Wetsuit Question

Drysuit boots are made so they seal with the drysuit. So they are definite different boots. My instructor came cold water diving with us last weekend and had pool sessions the next day (wearing wetsuit) and he was complaining he had to bring double of everything, including boots.

PADI DM requirement and PADI standards

Thank you for making that clear. I have no problem with any exercise or requirement described as part of the DM course. I just don't want to pay the equivalent of 1000$ for those specialities (what he is asking) for things I am already competent in. I do qualify for the official requirements and...

PADI DM requirement and PADI standards

Good morning. I have a question regarding the PADI DM course requirements and PADI standards. I know the requirements which I have. In this case, I have a NAUI rescue + EFR with over 120 dives in numerous countries including lots of night and deep dives. I contacted a local PADI instructor for...

    fukushima fall out

Fukushima is leaking 0.3 terabecquerels (TBq) of radioactive material per month. Compare this to the already present 100,000 TBq of caesium-137 from H-bomb testing in the 1960s. (Who do we have to thank for that?) Source...

    fukushima fall out

Seawater is not being used to cool the reactors. Please state that source. Please stop your disinformation! Only right after the loss of electricity and generators, as an last ditch effort, sea water was being dumped into the reactors (including the use of helicopters for that). Just to prevent...

    fukushima fall out

Yes, the JAPANESE media as in members of press club usually don't touch the hot poke. Heavily influenced by government. (I guess this can also apply to other parts of world) No argument with you here. But plenty of independent and decent (sometimes foreign) investigate reporters around...

Study Buddy or tutor needed in Chiba

Why against spirit? With help, I do mean help study, not take final test instead of her. Even then, the certifying dive shop has to do a quick test and review of body of knowledge before starting confined water. It will show the student didn't complete test herself. It's an overall good system.

    fukushima fall out

As a rule, I ignore general media articles as journalists are not specialists and I have seen too many wrong, misquoted or generally intentionally overhyped articles. CNN being the top of the list. I prefer knowledge information from scientists and I know a few (including people from safecast)...

    fukushima fall out

Than you all for pitching in! Yes, the radiation ghost is misused in the press. But the risk is real. And I don't trust the government or nuclear companies in giving us the truth. This is why I love crowd sourced project like safecast!! Good source of information! Monitors not just Japan but...

    fukushima fall out

I live in Tokyo and dive in Izu (south Tokyo) all the time. While diving, you don't eat or inhale anything so I don't see any problem anywhere including Japan. Lots of embassies here that checked, saw radiation levels in their home country higher then in Tokyo (ex. Rome) While I don't want to...

Higashi Izu Penninsula in May, guided dive

There are three major groups (for foreigners)... Mar scuba (Matthew), Tokyo European divers (French instructor) and Discovery Divers Tokyo. They are not dive shops but groups of divers with instructors and dive masters organizing trips. I think they are all "reliable" with DDT being the biggest...

Not having any luck with Izu -Thinking about going to Okinawa. Where to stay cheaply?

A tip is too look at vanilla air for flights... LLC prices but still includes 20kg luggage... Compare it with skymark and jetstar.... Vanilla air is not included in skyscanner (yet) Happy diving! There are some places through booking.com but for cheaper options.... Talk to some dive operators....

Where to go on our Honeymoon

I did my honeymoon on Koh Samui and stayed with Zazen boutique... They are pretty secluded with almost a private beach. Staff is super friendly and their beach bungalows are very cozy and next to the beach. Look at some photos online. I can't recommend any place more then this one! There are...
