The Bonaire criminal exposed, and it is ........YOU!

Insignificant as in, you have a few anecdotes but the majority of the data doesn't support it. ---------- Post added May 29th, 2014 at 06:22 PM ---------- I feel for anyone who gets victimized. Putting your gear in a place with no cameras where there is a lot of foot traffic isn't safe by...

When is it not worth it anymore?

I am a realist. I am not an explorer. I am an underwater tourist. I'm guessing most people are underwater tourists who get into technical diving now. They aren't finding new wrecks. They are just following in the steps of the people who already found them. They aren't mapping a new cave...

    driving to Nucove

I was at Nucove September last year. The roads weren't terribly bad. Nothing to be wary of, you just have to watch your speed. "drive north, go around the refinery, drive north some more".

The Bonaire criminal exposed, and it is ........YOU!

I read up on theft at bonairetalk and from the police reports. Diver on diver theft is pretty insignificant actually overall vs locals.

    Atomic Blade vs Jets/Slipstream Fins

I've used Atomic splits and OMS slips. The OMS was a huge uncomfortable hunk of plastic. I think people confuse the difficulty in kicking with them with power. I haven't used any of the softer Jet or Jet knockoffs. I've used Atomic Splits in gentle, current, surge, back paddling, etc. I really...

    Recent Sand Dollar experience?

Sand Dollar has full kitchens in every room. The last thing I really want to do, even on vacation, is leave my room for breakfast. We ate lunch at Between2Buns every day. The old restaurant at Den Laman had a sweet lunch meal plan but it closed (man it was nice).

    New Atomic Blade fins

Dear Atomic: 1. Will the awesome OEM spring straps for your Splits work on these. Please tell me yes. 2. How did Scuba Diving Mag award this best fin when it isn't release yet? I think you guys are great. But do you like them awarding production samples?

    Where to stay in Bonaire

Staying with Den Laman and using BDA is an easy win. Get a drive-dive package. You are on a great house reef. You are in walking distance of "Between 2 Buns". And Zhung Kong is a short drive to get Soda/etc. Sand Dollar is nice sorta. You rent from owners. I had to comb five different time...

    Bonaire Diver Evolution

Any one can lose a piece of gear. It might be a yellow flag that a Jaff was there previously there, but not a smoking gun.

    Bonaire Diver Evolution

Species: the Lost Jaff Even though they see you gearing up to dive Salt pier, they walk around aimlessly looking for someone to ask permission to dive it even though there is no boat or workers around.

    Bonaire Trip Report 9/14-9/21

At Cliff last year, we ran into an older lady who runs her own eco-dive adventure whatever on Bonaire. She took a piece of PVC with her on shore entries, and jammed it somewhere in the shallows.

    Bonaire Trip Report 9/14-9/21

Maybe? I was going to post this in my dive guide I'm working on.... Dive here (North to South): Nukove->Karpata (avoid the sites between karpata and oil slick, algae mess) Oil Slick Leap (going south) -> Sabadeco (if you have friends there, private site) (avoid the crud south of oil slick til...

    Bonaire Trip Report 9/14-9/21

I'm still working on "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Stupid, Rev. 2", here is a trip report while I finish it. ------------------------ In previous trips, we tried different accommodations. Trip1: we slummed it at a base budget off-shore fly-by-night operation Trip2/3: we stayed in nice rooms at...

    Bonaire Diver Evolution

I'm working on a new edition of "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Stupid" (tm), but thought about writing this essay as well. ----------------------- There you were a new recreational diver. You had to go on trips. Your "Local Dive $hop" ran trips and you went on some. You had a schedule, you a time...

    Back this week!

We saw black/white extremely photogenic crinoids at Hidden beach @ 50 ft down and at Candyland. Gotta get away from the other turistas to see them apparently. We found a black coral forest on Candlyland North @ 70ft. If you are a new diver, forget I just said that and keep diving between the...

    Back this week!

Staying at the Sand Dollar B6. Already had some great dives at Karpata, uncharted off the south end past vista blue, and other. So far the only bad dive was Tolo which had the algae and bleaching problems we saw at 1000 Steps on past trips. Avoid.
