The things we give up for "security".

    Zhung Kong Robbed?

Bonaire has a ton of unattended vehicles parked in unmonitored places. The petty crime problem is a predictable outcome. It is almost natural. These crimes of opportunity will always happen. We leave nothing in our truck but tanks and water. I wouldn't leave an ipod in the passenger seat of a...

    Zhung Kong Robbed?

Before we get the obligatory, "most divers have nothing to worry about" post. Yes, that is true. I've never been robbed either. The bodega many of us divers from Eden to Dandy Don's and beyond getting robbed though affects a lot of people potentially. The people who run Zhung Kong stay pretty...

    Is Poppy on Vacation?

I've emailed both Telerin addresses and not gotten a reply. Starting to worry my favorite car renter may have folded up. Edit: disregard, just had a few days "Island Time" on the reply.

    Bonaire SandDollar

It depends on the Condo you get of course. The main good thing about the Sand Dollar is... you can shop for air from BDA, the onsite Op (i forget the name), or Buddy's next door. I think when we just priced it Buddy was cheaper than BDA for air. Also, you can walk to "Between 2 Buns" each day...

An Ancient Trip Report for the CocoView (Oct. 2004)

That was a great dog :-( English Bob was leading a dive group from North Carolina, he wasn't staff. I loved the dinners at CCV, my only bad opinion was the ribs.

An Ancient Trip Report for the CocoView (Oct. 2004)

I found out that a trip report I posted in the days of yore at scubadiving.com was no longer attributed to me and had lost all of the comments posted on it. I am re-posting it here so at least I'm re-claiming it as mine (it had a lot of comments at SD before the great purge). It was one of the...

    Zhung Kong Robbed?

A real shame. The Kong is almost a daily stop for me and my buddy. Hope the Police find these armed robbers and chum them off the east side.

    Zhung Kong Robbed?

A chinese market on that street was robbed by three armed men. I assume it is my favorite small market on Bonaire, Zhung Kong. Can anyone confirm? So sad if true.

Wifi Compared North of Town? (deco_martini returns in September!)

Been to GRI (deceased), Den Laman, Sand Dollar, etc. Wifi is always either spotty or requires slips of paper (yeah, seriously). I just want to get in a room and connect my laptop and tablet so I can upload my pictures and browse reddit (and scubaboard of course). So I was looking at Buddy...

Tonight's the night for Bonaire sea wasps!

I was going to post something similar and decided not to. I can't confirm or deny if I do the same thing. After an experience in Roatan at the CocoView where some numb nut put the night dive stobe at the top of the buoy, I had a "never again" moment after getting stung on my hands and face by...

The Bonaire criminal exposed, and it is ........YOU!

I get it. Provocative title, its cool. Most of the theft reports I hear on the interwebs are from people who experience vehicle or living quarters break-ins. I don't have an axe to grind against the blame-locals-first crowd. This year will be my fifth in a row diving Bonaire. We leave nothing...

The title of your post was: The Bonaire criminal exposed, and it is ........YOU! Maybe just change the title. The content of the post is a good reminder to not trust anybody.

The Bonaire criminal exposed, and it is ........YOU!

False, it's through bonairetalk that I got the links to police report summaries directly. It isn't just reading anecdotes on their forum. https://www.facebook.com/pages/forum-bonaire/134931953259878

The Bonaire criminal exposed, and it is ........YOU!

That isn't how this works. You make the wild conjecture based on something that happened to you, you have to back it up. The vast majority of Bonaire theft is non committed by divers. This is just a fact. You actually had a good point which is that you shouldn't assume your gear is safe in a...
