12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

A lot of us in the scuba industry could be making a lot more money working in any other business. Compare a tennis instructor to a scuba instructor as an example. But I believe there is something special about the experience of being underwater. I want to believe that we give something unique to...

    Drama movie triggers depression

Sometimes, I start profiles on internet forums and post dozens of low content, one sentence postings. Some people think I'm trying to create an online persona for use in scams, others think I'm a web crawling bot looking for links and email addresses. Maybe, I'm just weird.

    Don't fart in your drysuit

Dry suits farts are an old trick. On the surface, after the dive, when you have your suit inflated with fart gas, call your buddy over to check your suit's dump valve. As he looks over your valve, give yourself a big squeezy hug, exhausting the gas through your valve and sharing it with your...

    Redundant air supply

Scorkl Update..... I know it's wrong but I just can't stop watching this. I been in scuba manufacturing for a long time and I know what happens when a new product is a few months late for DEMA. If I was years late delivering product that was already paid for, shop owners and scuba divers across...

    How to beat DandyDon

When I log on to Scubaboard, the first three forums I check are A&I, Passings, and Thumbs Down. I want to make sure I'm not in any of them.

    Garibaldi

There are things worse than being a Garibaldi.... We could get labeled as a tunicate, sea slug or some other invertebrate.

Help identifying stone triangle found at Grand Cayman?

My first impression is some concrete chunks that have been tumbled by wave action... like sea glass. Or pieces of material broken free from an underwater structure built by aliens a thousand years ago... just a couple of guesses

Yet another ingenious UW breathing device

And another one! Dive Portable Lungs - Self Pump Scuba Tank Spare air is missing out in terms of marketing. All they need to do is add a hand pump to their system.

THE MEG - Official Trailer #1 [HD]

I'm into Sci-fi so I would give the storyline some slack for poetic licence. However, it's a slippery slope down to Sharknado 3.

    Oxygen compatibility, materials and explosions

I spent years working for a scuba manufacturer that also sold air station and cascade components. We had a commercial dive customer call and say that four of our line valves (brand new) all failed. Failures were very rare for this part so four in a row raised eyebrows. We got them back and all...

    Anybody else encounter tech arrogance?

The guy's simply an unpleasant human being. You met him as a tech diver so he's a reflection on tech divers. If we knew his agency, he would be a reflection on that agency. If he travels abroad, he will be a reflection on Americans. If a UFO abducts him for a probe, he will be a reflection on...

Small pieces of plastic coming out of 2nd stage

Yes.. I've heard it quite a few times over the years. Roaches crawl into second stages and chew on the soft rubber innards. Sometimes, they're still there at the start of a dive. Always , always purge your reg before putting it in your mouth. Divers have learned this the hard way.

Are sharks more likely to attack surfers, scuba divers, or snorkelers?

In all my years of diving, I have never once felt threatened by a shark. The one time a shark did mess with me was while I was surfing. Did a goofy youtube video about it...

    What made you go pro?

I'd been scuba diving since I was 15 and in my mid-twenties I decided I wanted to make diving a career. I got brochures from commercial dive schools and brochures for sport instructor courses. I was deciding whether to be a commercial diver or sport instructor. At the time, commercial divers...

    Crunch time for DiveLine

I apologize if I missed it but I've been through this thread and the previous thread. What specifically is the navigation technology? Acoustic ? Inertial? I'm still not sure what the disruptive technology really is. We've had sonar beacon systems before in a few forms. If anyone develops a new...

Dive and let dive... dealing with different styles of diving.

When I was an active instructor I had to be careful of how I presented myself and my diving technique. I couldn't be diving on my day off and be seen with a mask on my forehead or get photographed underwater with my console hanging too low. But one of the cool things about being a grown a$$ man...
