    skeptic that I am...

For years, I thought the green flash was like a snipe hunt until I actually saw one. Now you can see videos of it on youtube. It looks nothing like what you would expect from the stories.

Serious question, Nitrox and extended erections

I've done a lot of tech diving with all kinds of O2 concentrations for different lengths of time but I've never experienced this issue. This is the first I've heard of it. However, most of my diving is in cold water.

    Diving as a profession

I started diving as a kid and decided I wanted to one day be a dive professional. Here's what I did.... First, accumulate a wide set of useful skills. You need business skills like balancing a cash registers, managing people and technical skills like working on machines. Before you can be...

    Skin bends...

This question I haven't been clear on from the start of the discussion is, "it works at what specifically?" Is this to research post dive deco stress of different profiles? I think you mentioned in one post that this is used for diagnostics after a dive. This device is used to decide to send...

    Scuba Cylinder kills fire fighter

Reading the narrative of the event is absolutely frightening. I think about all the years I spent around hundreds of scuba tanks in various conditions (including tanks in countries with very lax regulations.) When I saw the pictures of the tanks, I couldn't believe how wasted they were. If you...

spare air? i use one and i get laughed at

Ooooh! So that's why people are laughing at me! Hey, no reason to stop wearing a perfectly good knife from the 1970s even if it is a little bulky. Besides, we'll see who's laughing when the underwater villains really do show up, not to mention fighting off giant squids.

    1997 Deep Dive/Shark Attack.

There is a lot of strangeness in this thread... A giant, prehistoric tiger shark, deadly narcosis, conflicting reports... It really seems strange that one of the few shark attacks in the entire history of the island just happened to occur on a dive that most experts would call unreasonably...

spare air? i use one and i get laughed at

It's ok. I get laughed at too and I don't even own a Spare Air. In the words of one neo-classical, North American philosopher: "you ain't nuthin if you ain't got at least SOME haters..."

    Dynamometric key

Holy Crap! I wrote 'foot pounds." I meant 'inch pounds.' 20-200 'inch pounds' is what I use. Unless I'm trying to install a valve on a storage bank or replace the heads on an engine block. Always listen to the Wookie...

    Dynamometric key

Yes, I think that covers most of the torque ranges you will encounter in scuba gear. But you would still need the various sizes of sockets and 'crows feet' to accommodate whatever gear you're working on.

    Dynamometric key

A dynamaaa...? A dyna moomet...? Google, google, google... Oh! A torque wrench! There are different torque values used in different parts of the dive gear. The torque to install a valve is different then a torque to install a hose. My torque wrench goes from 20 ft/pounds (2 newtons) to 200...

    Anti-fog solution

What's really bad is when you're on a small boat offshore in the salt and sun so you're mouth gets really dry and you have to get someone else to spit in your mask.

    Skin bends...

Is a DIY doppler really a thing? My understanding was that there was a lot to getting consistent and accurate doppler scores. Isn't there some level of 'interpretation' when listening for bubble clicks? I'm not sure how DIY dopplers would be used except in the context of some DCS study...

    Tying in without plastic bottles

How about instead of plastic jugs, the divers take some bags of trash from the boat and release it into the water. The trash floating to the surface would let the boat know they were tied in.
