some info on Mount Storm just in case:
http://www.deepwater.org/asa/scuba/mt-storm.html
and my apologies- - there is a fantastic write up on Summersville under the Mid Atlantic sticky of favorite places! I hadn't noticed it...
If the vis is going to be bad there, then I too would vote...
ahhh Clarksburg.
yes that would be a drive to get to Gilboa (about 1-1/2 hours to go from Clarksburg to Parkersburg and then for our group its right at about 4 hours to get to Gilboa).
Clarksburg is closest to Tygart. But...
If wanting and/or needing warm water then I would go to...
sorry everything I referenced will require a dive flag...
Depending on how far north central then possibly lake Cumberland, but I haven't been there yet.
Summersville with "sarges dive shop" would at least supply air fills and rents dive flags... It is supposed to be the clearest water in...
What part of WV are you coming to? Drive time will probably affect the "suggestion" for where to go.
If in the panhandle area Mount Storm. Fresh water lake which a local power plant uses for cooling water which then makes the water unnaturally warm. Lots of catfish. There are a few...
Anyone been to Smith Mountain lake in Virginia?
I'm going to be in Lewisburg WV over the weekend and while doing a casual web search ran across this lake with the "underwater town".
Its a small drive from Lewisburg (2hrs) and am wondering what the lake is like for diving? Found one...
shew I'm glad you wrote this... thought I had lost what little remains of my mind... especially when answering with something like "ya might want to check out the GLWC"...
You might try looking underneath North American clubs- particularly the Great Lakes Wrecking crew...
If you are in a wetsuit it might feel a little chilly, but chances are pretty good that you will have enough enthusiasm to not even feel it. (there are multiple posts about keeping warm which...
no problem...
Just wanted to make sure, glad I did... would have been fun discussing why we couldn't see each other at the walmart parking lot when trying to meet up... :-)
Did you try a quick post on the "deep dixie" group as well?
Good Luck !
hey if anyone is interested in a quick...
as in Charleston WV?
I'm supposed to be off work May 12th and could pretty easily be talked into some diving. Nothing very "exotic" in our neck of the woods, but its time underwater... :-)
Probably can't do Saturday and Sunday is out (mothers day and my wife probably wouldn't be that...
waaaahoooo
dive buddies have confirmed and we are heading up for the meet and greet
Is there anything we can bring?
I see someone referencing bringing "girls, girls girls"- - maybe I could bring thongs?
I really need to stop reading and writing after having a couple glasses of...
I'm pondering- - and who knows maybe Charlie will "run with it"- - maybe setting up a quickie yahoo group that we can do a "off line" group e-mail with trips and/or ideas for quick trips. Easier than keeping track of "who am I supposed to send this to" and a little nicer than bothering all of...
both stacks were going pretty well.
I'm not sure, but seems the one other time there was good vis both stacks were going...
Hopefully they will be going upon your arrival !
In case there would be interest to see it I just read on the deco stop that apparently there is a Chevy Sierra in about 20' of water directly in front of the dock. Poster was there March 27th. This is the first I've heard about it, maybe it has been there for quite some time, maybe it is...
Hi Jim- - sorry I'm going to miss out on this, I'll be out of town that weekend.
In case it is of interest the water was 57 down at the 90' platform this weekend (3/31), and the vis was what I'd call a "Mount storm great" somewhere in the 12' range. No problem seeing the indian head from...
A couple folks from P-burg are heading to Mt Storm this Saturday (april 1)- - water will be warmer, but vis about the same- - care to join in? couple of us doing gear testing as well... leaving at 7'ish and should be back around 8pm 'ish.
Dave
Apeks... I'd ohhh and ahhh that, but then I don't have much to compare them too (except for the apples oranges of m initial sherwood). Really and truely if someone were offering to let me try out some different configurations then I'd simply plan on doing whatever it took to take them up on...
Can't resist to make a comment
Didn't Brian's collection of regs and other gear start with a Mares that he just had to get right away before testing out some of the other ones?!?
:-) (Mind you I haven't met him yet, but couldn't resist...)
Paul- - what reg did the other LDS suggest...
